Hey folks,
Anybody have any experience with this cooler? http://www.coolerguys.com/ProductDetails.aspx?productID=1100
For 15 bucks I thought I might give it a shot. I wanna overclock my 9700 pro, and I like that it exausts air from the case aswell.
Any other ones I should be looking into before I buy this?
That's what I'm using on my 9700 pro. It's great.

I've heard/researched that they are the best.
I want to put one on my Radeon 9800P, but I don't want to void my 3yr warrantee. Anyone have and suggestions to this end? Will removing the stock 9800 HSF make any obvious changes to the card?

Should I get one for the R9800Pro in my HTPC?

They have the Arctic Cooling VGA Silencer Rev2 at SVC.com for $9.99 after code.
- $10 code:

Do you need fans? They have the world famous, super silent, Panaflo 80x25mm 12L 2 for 3.75 each or 10 for $25 ($2.50 each) etc.
Great place to pick up cheap fan guards and cable for your rig. No problems with my 2 orders from them. My third including the silencer is going thru right now.
Your welcome,

Thanks for the responses. I'll go ahead and get one.
And thanks Jel, thats awesome. I've ordered from SVC before also, I just didn't know about that code! I might aswell try one of those fans out while I'm at it.

The 9800 Pro runs cooler than the 9700 Pro, so should work even better.

Hey Apex, I've been reading about the slight gap between the heatsink and the PCI bracket. Did you do anything to close that gap, or did you just leave it. Also, are you overclocking at all?

Woohoo! Mine came in with the 5 silent panaflo fans and all the wire jumpers a guy could ask for today. Took me 40 minutes to install the arctic cooler cuz I droped the instructions and had to everything twice. Forgot to attach fan cable to the card and the little aluminum bracket etc. Easy as can be even with no instructions.
Time to turn down the CPU/voltage, swap fans and run it all silent.
Worth every penny IMO and I like the high/low speed toggle on the back of the arctic gpu cooler.

No, left the gap.
My 9700 was overclocked for awhile, but I changed it back to stock since I don't game with it anymore.

When I went to watercooling recently, the gap caused by the shim was simply too much to ignore. I had to remove my shim which was a little nerve-wracking, but it went ok. Now my 9700pro, which has stock speeds of 324core/310.5 mem, is stable for 24 hours of 3DMark loops at 421core/376mem. My 3DMark01 score jumped from 17517 to 19615 and my 3DMark03 went from 5150 to 6320. I think there's a lot of OC'ing room in the 9700pro as long as you can keep it cool. I'm almost tempted to put some BGA tweakmonster ramsinks on the RAM, since it has no cooling, but I'm not running it OC'd right now anyhow. I was running Far Cry at max settings at 1280x1024 with no problems. Unless Half Life 2 gives me problems, I probably won't overclock then, either.

Ramsinks dont help that much... I'd be surprised if you got 5% increase....
Seemed to help my ti200 but all the stuff Ive read says otherwise.
Gl either way.

That's been my experience as well. On my current board, however (9800P w/ a newly-installed Silencer) my memory's max speed is lower (345) than it's printed rated speed (360), so I wonder if cooling them would make them run up to their electronic maximum.

Increase voltage first.... if its 1.5 go to 1.6 volts.... I can remember right now too much beer tonight... No need to go higher with it.

Is this a software change or a hardware mod?

Bios mod, you should have an agp voltage option. What kind of ps do you have? Your ram should be able to do stock speeds. Check the ram too and see if you ss or infineon (i think some were) to see if it's good ram to oc.

On the actual memory chips:
HY5DU283222
AF-28
KOR 7L42018T
Device ID: 4E48
I don't know who makes this memory.

I think they are the cheaper Hynix... Could be hyundai :P j/k.
Try a little more voltage and than oc it...
Im assuming the are 2.8ns chips and should be able to run stock np btw.
Found this on it for cofirmation:

Got my Cooler yesterday. I have to say I'm quite impressed. It's quiet as hell, and I can now overclock to 382 and 346 no problem (maybe higher for the CPU), where I used to only go up to 351 and 342.

Can you hear the difference between high and low? It's good for about 5 degrees and I cant hear the difference. I cant hear it. Panaflos are louder..
-jel:halo:
I can definitely hear the difference on mine. Your other fans are too loud. ;)

:hmm: I'm thinking its not that the fans are too loud, it's that there are 5 of them and somethings going on with the airflow. At low you dont hear em unless your ears are right next to them and at high I can barely hear em from 1 foot away. But all together in that aluminum box theres a slight humm and I cant hear the vga cooler.
Still I slept like a baby with everything running last night. Usually fan noise would bother me a little. Once I switch that seagate to my main drive and move it back below the desk....
Silence rox!

Yeah, I can hear the difference, but even at high it's still quieter than the stock cooler.

I can, but I'm running it in a Dell 400SC. Even at high speed, it's barely audible. I dig it. So far, I have been able to OC both my core and mem one full step beyond what I could with the stock 9800P cooler. I'll do more aggressive OCing later.
BTW, jel: Thanks for the info and link.
