Wow... I just did a 30GB hard drive backup with Ghost using 4 DVD disks!

That took all of 4 hours to complete... DAYUUM!!!!

I swear, having a DVD burner is DA BOMB!!! It would've taken 26 CDs to back all of this data up.

Previously I only backed up files to my extra hard drive, but having an external disk backup sure makes me feel alot more comfortable than having them on my hard drive. :wow: :D

I do not like backing up all my files with ghost, I prefer to just have them on DVD and when I need something I can pull it or give it to a friend. As for OS's and partions Ghost is super badas$, I probably throw down my ghost partition for my OS monthly. I install and unistall alot of progs that I need to test out and they eat HD and registry alive. Also harddrives are becoming so cheap that I can just start backing up to an offsite harddrive.

Actually, I misspoke up there... I did a 30 GB PARTITION backup on my main 200GB drive... I alot 30GB to just the O/S and programs I install.

As far as saving them to a separate drive, I do that too... however "drives can fail" (as evidenced by my previous RMA of my first 200 GB WD SE drive), this way, I can have a somewhat permanent backup of my O/S that I can keep in a relatively safe place and not have to worry about losing anything.

Yes... I know hardrives are cheaper and cheaper, however right now I have 4 hard drives in my main box and most of that space is taken up with saved video from recording TV shows... so I needed a place to offload my drive backup, hence the DVD. :thumb:

Yuh, I am still holding off to buy a DVD burner. I am not waiting for the price, but more of the practicality for me, i have a CD burner and rarely use it.

Unfortuanlty HD do fail with no reason or explanation, and let me tell you how many customer I have that looked stunned when I tell them it is their own responsibility to back up their own sh1t, NOT MINE!

Well backing up to 26 CDs was NOT an option for me... Hence I had never backed up to "removable disk" before. Honestly, it was quite a different experience... (as it has never taken me 4 hours to make a backup to my hard drive, but the end product is worth it I guess. :D )

BTW... just the other day there was a $65 DVD Multi Format Burner for sale (refurbished I think....) Might've been a good deal to jump on. :D

I barely use my cd burner but in the last 6 weeks I've used my burner over a 100 times already. It just seems more practical.

Aren't you averaging like 100 DVDs a month or something ridiculous? hehe

Is he saying that he has both a CD and a DVD burner in the same box?

If so... why? I moved my CD Burner to a separate box when I installed my DVD burner, that way if I wanna burn 2 different CDs, I can do it simultaneously if I want to (since the DVD burner can burn CDs as well..). :D
