I got a call from my aunt today informing me that my Grandmom was in the hospital with a bowel obstruction and at that time nothing else was known. When I got back later today, my mother informed me that the test had shown a large growth which was obstructing the bowel and had appeared in a period of a few months. The test show that there is a mass but nothing else can be seen through the test. It requires immediate surgery and moving her to another hospital isnt an option.

Apparently, the situation is extremely dangerous as she can die from this in multiple ways. (If the growth perforates the intestine it will result in perionitis, if it ruptures without causing a perforation she can die from that, and other problems.) Plus the short time in which this occured is unsettling since the cancer is obviously very aggressive.

They were going to do the surgery immediately to remove the growth but two traumas pushed it back until tomorrow. At this point, its a waiting game to see what the obstruction really is.

Hopefully everything will come out ok.

Unfortunately, things are NOT going well. My grandmom has just come out and they found out that it is cancer, again. :( Her ovarian cancer which was treated 5+ years ago has apparently reoccurred and spread. I am waiting to hear how bad it is. My aunt said that it was all over but they were going to remove what they could. At this point its a waiting game to find out more information.

FVCK!

Edited: The doctor finally informed us that the blockage was not a tumor but rather the intestine somehow attaching itself to another portion of the intestine. The cancer, apparently they are 95% sure that its ovarian, was mostly limited to the fat wall, which was entirely removed. There was some gravely spots on her diaphraghm. She is going to have to go through chemo, but its better than we thought when I first posted this post.

YACST - yet another cancer sucks thread.

good luck to your Gramma. try to keep a good attitude for her, and most of all shower her with hugs and kisses every chance you get.

:stupid:

I wish I could've spent some time with my grandma before she passed away. I'm glad the situation for your grandmother is much brighter than you feared.

Well...unfortunately things are not going that well. I was just informed that my grandmother is going in for chemo. Thats where things get worse........there is an 80% chance they can get in remission....if it goes into remission she is given either 6 months to 6 years to live. Thats the optomistic outcome.

If it doesnt go into remission, she has less than 6 months to live. I really dont know how to handle this information and I am trying to figure out what to do.

Unfortunately, I am out here in *sarcasm* lovely *sarcasm*California, while she is back in Philly. At this point I am trying to figure out whether to wait to go back until August (when I had plans to go back already) or head back sooner. Its odd to say back, since it would be just for a visit...but that is where I am from so I guess thats why I will always say back.
