Yeah why don't you rude newbies go back to your home. We don't want no trouble, just get out. Are you too good for your home?

Jenny

I disagree. I do not believe it is the new members that are causing all the problems. Yes, there are a few that are annoying everyone on purpose, but all of us should keep in mind that we were new at one point, too. There are quite a few people on here (I WILL NOT name names!) that attack anyone who is new, no matter what they do or say. Everyone needs to grow up and start minding their own business. If someone does something that is against the rules or wrong, let the moderators or Apex or Leon take care of it. They may take awhile to get to it, but it will happen. All it does when everyone gripes and "shouts" at the new (or old) posters is make everyone upset and clutter up the forums.

Just my 2 cents, anyway. Welcome to all the newbies, and on behalf of all the other civilized people (you will figure out quickly who I am and am not talking about), I apoligize for some of the attitudes and behaviors on the boards lately.

I have to agree with Jenny, I think people are eager to release their steam off on newbies who don't understand the rules here, and it'd be easier just to tell the newbies nicely what the rules are.

Like I said before the problem is that the forums are getting "crowded" so all of this hostile is coming out. A simple possible theory of what happens in real life, overpopulated areas are more likely of violent acts. But then again maybe it's just everybody getting tired of lamers that post stupid topics. Ooooh lamer come out and play */me sneaks around with a sledge hammer behind my back* http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/biggrin.gif.

I agree with Jenny. Crowding will result in more silly questions being posted, but at the same time more deals posted more quickly. There are some people in the Deals forum who think that just because they're "Senior Members" or something they have the right to bash a new user.

If Apex and Leon and Darth really condoned their monitoring they would have made them moderators, duh! They always find the need to have the last word and keep harping on silly subjects.

With any growing bbs there is bound to be tension between longtime members and newcomers. Especially a rapid growing bbs such as GotApex. This is to be expected and may be considered growing pains. Compared to 3 months ago there is certainly more tension and people are more eager to lash out at one another. Though the bbs growing isn't under our control how we manage this transition is. We all were newbies at a bbs at one time or another.

well, i'm guilty of some posts that have been a little rude or started small arguements, but i dont see anything wrong with having an arguement. i'm not here name calling just for the sake of stirring up sh!t, and i'm not cool with that, but we should be able to argue with each other knowing that in the end there's no hard feelings, we just all have our own opinions. if you guys want to keep it all rosie and nice and whatever, then that's fine, i'll watch and see what the overall conscensus is.

Like att and AJ, I'm sure I'm being lumped into this little band of wanna-be moderators. Here's my take, and I can't speak for AJ or att:
I do not make any attempt whatsoever to target new people. If someone's first post doesn't sort of follow the rules, who cares? It's their first post, they have the right, nay, the OBLIGATION to do it wrong! http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/smile.gif
What gets me kind of annoyed is when someone intentionally abuses the boards, posts misleading topics or is just plain rude or stupid to someone else. And I certainly don't think I'm alone in that sentiment, am I?
It would take a pretty small person to jump on a newbie for their express characteristic as a newbie. To jump on someone that is looking for trouble is something I am neither ashamed of, nor something I'll apologize for.

MaggieOK
07-26-2000, 11:54 AM
Actually, I think some of us are wound up just a little too tight and need to relax. It's NOT our place to jump on people for being lamers, making bad posts, being idiots, *******s or whatever. Just ignore it and the lame thread will get further and further down the list. Let the moderators handle it.

(And I'll try to control my homonal psychotic homicidal tendancies.)

Hi, I'm a newbie as you can see from number of replies and when I registered. I have already gathered respect for whoever runs this message board, and those who are on it. This community is HUGE and it's only a matter of time before 100(overestimating..i hope) people out of 2939 people are annoying are post negative or arguements. Discussing with a community is good, and is the core of a message board, otherwise there'd be no board of messages. Anyways, Jenny has my salute of respect for defending "us newbies" . =) Also it's ok to be angry at newbies because they are the ones that usually start the trouble, newbie gets dropped or get bored of abusing the message board before they can ever get the status of senior or however this membership thing works. Have a nice (air conditioned) day! (It's all in the attitude)

yeah, newbies are a pain in the ass. especially the ones with less than 10 posts http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/biggrin.gif anyway, i agree, give people a chance to catch on to the forum format and ignore the ones who aren't worth listening to - both newies and seniors.

i concur. instead of "informing" folks or whatnot, just ignore posts. i think i have too much time on my hands, which is why i respond most of the time. so if a post says "hot deal $20 off $20 at amazon" and inside the person is asking for something, just ignore and let it sink into oblivion. don't reply to any questions that don't have a ? next to it, and peeps will eventually get the idea.
but this is a really tuff call here, cuz it IS pretty annoying to see people pretend they have a good deal or something like that (most problems arise in the deals section) when they're really just trying to get some traffic onto their site and make some money. like the adamstorch fellow who thot putting it in the deals section was justified because he wanted to get traffic. sorry, i name names. a lot of scams come thru, and how would a newbie know if it's good or not? so i think instead of flaming the poster, which is a natural reaction, just post a response on the "deal." that's what i usually look for, and what's most informative. so if someone says that it's way overpriced for what it is, if there's somewhere else to get that thing cheaper, and funky loopholes, i find that usefull. the ones that need to be locked and moved leon does within minutes anyhow, like the "hi michelle yu" topic in the deals section to the OT section.
man, it's kinda dumb too when peeps place "OT" or "way OT" in the title then stick it in the deals section. i gess some folk are just born dumb and will always be dumb. instead of flaming, how aboot let's track their ip's then blow up their homes?

beer sounds good to me, i'll owe you guys a couple but i'm in good position to rake it in myself. maybe we can just condense some of the debt and all you little posters can get together and send me a bottle of vodka, i dont have room for all the beer i'm owed with all the deals stuff i have.

Ok obviously, I'm a newbie, so this may sound sort of stupid. But I think it really is the amount of new people that makes GotApex suck sometimes...with bad deal postings, etc. As for me, I've been a member for only a little while, but before I even posted a single message I looked around quite a bit, making sure I knew what I was getting into so I wouldn't like like a complete idiot. I still make mistakes myself, but I'll only make them once. Its the people that PURPOSELY do the same things over and over that are ruining it for the rest of us.

And furthermore, I believe that Carthage should be destroyed.

I too believe that the fact that the forums are growing so fast is causing tension. I remember back in March, when people posted a deal a second time, they were told that that deal had already been posted and that was the end of it. I think that maybe because of having so many deals posted multiple times people are getting stressed out by it and flaming members. I admit that I have crossed the line a few times, and I should not have. Before all of these new members came in June/July, apex never had to lock a single topic, let alone delete one. I can understand why that argument with vladik was deleted though. If it was left up, people who were new to the forums would think that this is not a very good place to come, and they would leave and not give it a second thought. All in all, let's try not to get mad at people for posting deals over again, or referrals in the deals forum, unless they repeatedly do it. Of course replying to a deal and then posting it again and clamining you found it like a certain user is not right. Just realize that some people have not been here as long as others and help them out a bit.

ah, good ol' thermite. altho i don't think that would do a lot of damage unless u had them hold it in their hand while u lit it. i was thinkin today that's it's annoying to have someone post really dumb posts just to be stupid, and how easy it was for them cuz they can just keep registering new fake emails, then new gotapex accounts, then post something like "where can i get a free house?" i still think we should just let these sink into oblivion so it doesn't stay at the top. i was thiking for registration there should be something like a mailed username and password, like ecount did so you can't register w/ more than one name. emails and ip's are easy to change, but physical addy's is a bit more diff and it'd be more trouble for peeps to get a new acct just to post something stupid. and it'd be like a $1 to get membership or something, to cover mailing costs and so peeps wouldn't register fake addy's and make the site go broke.

well, it's not so bad if u think aboot it as wages. it takes mebbe a minute to print, stuff and stuff an individual letter, and at 67 cents a minute, that's not so bad. that's $40.20 an hour taxfree, few have it so good. heck, i'll stuff envelopes for that, screw finance. i think the problem with banning email addy's is that there are too many free places and they're always popping up.

banning free email is not good because i like to use some of the free places cause they sometimes have spam filters.
Also if you use any decent service they will allow you to have multiple emails and therfore you can make one send mail their and either don't check it or just kill it http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Yeah, the banning of free e-mails was a brainfart. I guess if Apex outsources it, it might not be bad...no extra work for him, no difference in revenue, only thing is it might slow the forum growth a little. Then again, that might not be a horrible thing, considering the learning curve. It seems like people definitely get the hang and culture here after about 15 posts.
