I heard there is a new motorola V series that is digital and looks really good. It is offered in HK but not sure if it is in the US. Can anyone tell me if it is and what company supports it and/or a picture of it.

Did you post this question before. I don't remember who asked a similar question. But I've got a GSM phone, and I tell everyone that its not that great if outside of a big city. If you live out in LI, it probably ain't that great. I live in Queens and I get a lot of dead zones.

The Motorola V phone has been out in the US for quite a long time. It was not really popular since the earlier model (V3620 a.k.a. "Vader") was a purely analog phone. The digital V phone (V8160 a.k.a. "Vulcan") has finally been approved for use with many CDMA carriers. It's retailing for approximately $400-$600 depending on if you get new service activation or not.

I was looking through Motorola's website, but I can't find the new V Series for CDMA. Hey Freakinfreak, where did you get that information? And when is the phone expected to release?

I went to Taiwan last year they had a ton of cell phones to choose from, if your expecting them to show up in the US don't hold your breath. The phones from asian countries are loaded with functions, but like most things in asia they are rushed to the market. For example, minidiscs very popular in japan but something I laugh at in the US. Most Americans will skip a generation and get the better Mp3 players that are getting very cheap. Another thing that is very popular in asia is video cd's which are almost non existant in the United States.

Well, I got the information first hand since I'm in the cellular business. The phone is out and has been out for several months. The US version just came out. The Portuguese/Latin American versions have been floating around for a while. If you are planning on buying this phone, make sure you get the US version since it has a longer warranty and has the date in the US format instead of the international format. One more important thing about the imported version; it may not be approved by your carrier whereas the US version might be.

In other countries when you buy something that's it, no warranty. If it dies oh well. We have much better protection in the United States. Another thing is that in other countries people take care of their stuff more. I personally abuse my phone, drop it every day.

The only carrier the currently supports this phone is Verizon. I'm not sure where you can buy the US version on the net. You can try going to cellpoint.net and they have the imported version. They also have pictures there too.

If you're thinking about going with the digital V phone, go with the V8160. The V8162 is made for Sprint PCS. I don't know about where you live, but Sprint PCS is horrible in the Los Angeles market. Unfortunately, these phones are still very pricey.

My friends are on sprint they seem to have no problem but I am not sure if they are using fully digital phones. my main concern is that i travel from a city area to upstate ny where it is quite dead so not sure if they have digital lines.
I have to ask my friends and sprint if they can go all digital up there.
Yes i saw that they are pricy. other then the V phones what is the next new or bext phones out there?
timeport?

for around $150 what are your opinions on it?

i got the Samsung 8500 over Samsung 6100 last weekend for my mom for 60 bucks mainly becuase the 6100 is very sissy(to me)and not dual band(peace of mind for my mom). just go to the local sprint store and sign up for a 2 year contract to get the $100 off with addional $40 off for creating a new business account(they don't care if you don't have a business) then you ask them to waive the $30 off for activation. or you can use the same deal to get your *ahem*sissy phone for 10 bucks.

My friend got one from somewhere in Asia and has been using it in NYC. It's the V-phone flips like a StarTAC, but is like the size of a lighter.
how is this v-phone better than the nokia 8890(which is the best cell phone money can buy...i thought)?
someone please clarify this for me..
thanks

I HIGHLY recommend the Samsing 8500...its is worlds better than the Motorola, the menu is easier, it is more durable, and I feel it is definetly nicer looking

Abex....I wouldn't recommend getting a contract, especially 2 years....b/c newer and better deals are coming out all the time, you don't want to be tied in

V phone. PacBell carries this model. Just came out. I would assume they will make it avilable to more companies that use motorola cell phones.
It's the flip phone, not the one pictured right?

I agree that i don't want to get binded in a two year contract. How does the new business thing work though? Also is the Samsung 6100 just as good as the 8500 or the 8500 a LOT better then the 6100.

I know people that have the 6100, I think its a pretty good phone....the only problem is that it is single band (no analog option) if that doesn't bother you, than hook it up! Its cheaper! (But of course, not as cool looking)

V is a series and the one we talking about is the v8162 which is flip and very tiny.

An Airtouch store in my area had the V8162. According to the Airtouch/Verizon site they carry the V8160 but it doesn't specify the V8162. It was a silver color as opposed to the darker 8160 so I'm guessing it was the other model.
And for now, you better get an Analog/Digital phone cause if you're out of the city, you'll want that extra area the analog can work in when there are no digital lines.
I always used to love the Nokia and it's open design. I thought the flip phones were "sissy" phone but after using a Audiovox 4000xl (same design as a Nokia basically) I have to say that Motorola's StarTac phones feel much better in my hand and it feels really weird if the phone doesn't reach my mouth... I feel like I'm not talking into anything.
