Hey guys/gals,
I've got what I think is the strangest good-idea I've come with to date. Now I have to be a prick and not share it for fear that someone smarter stronger and better looking will nail me to a wall with it and make a million while I sob in Off-Topic... The deal is I want to know ANY advice you can give me... anyone who has ever pursued an idea and failed/succeeded. Good web sites to help get started, agency's that can be trusted... what are just some basic steps to start out right...

Well i got quite a few ideas

well i am going to try and go forth with the idea but hopefully i can minimize the cost.

I would start getting background info on the idea. ie) if it is an invention then go look for patents.
if a web based thing then look to see what is out there and stuff.
See what equipment you need and see if u need to get parnters. Also if you are still in school it would be good to talk to a professor about it or some guidance area.

Right now i am going to draw up a porposal that would include expenses and prospective income and partners. Then I since mine is a relation based idea i will have to present this to different places to get sponsership or i can use my own capital and have a working demo of it

Success depends on how much time and effort you are going to put in it.
do not let ppl discourage you. My father thought of the phone card idea a long time ago but he never acted upon it because ppl told him it was stupid and see how rich he would be now. =P o well good luck

and, if you are a college student and this is an 'invention' or has to do with any form of research, be careful that you don't/haven't forfieted any rights by using university facilities in the development of your 'idea'. i know that even though i didn't work in a lab durning my undergrad, i did teach a class and was required to sign a form, that all undergrad employees signed, and one of the provisions in it was forfieting rights to the university on any inventions/research break-throughs that i stumbled on while using any university labs. just a word of caution.

That is true
I forogt about that one. My team of ppl made this cool thing but we had a fight over ownership and profit and thus never made it out in the market. It would have been something nice and prolly would be the fad for at least a few months http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Hey, for all of you interested in what it might take to get a web business going...the answer is cash. HOWEVER, if you're lost on how to get cash, I stole the latest issue of what used to be PCComputing from the doctor's office today. It's called Smart Business for the New Economy now, and the August 2000 issue has a terrific article explaining the various pros and cons of funding sources (F&F, angels, and VC's). I am finding the whole magazine fairly stimulating. Just a tip, guys...

Also, Apex, any tips on do's or do not's for aspiring baby webmasters?
