I need to clean my laptop screen of the dust and smudges that inevitably show up. what is the best way to clean it? i've used a tissue in the past, but that leaves lint and just doesn't work too well.

Best way is probably one of those anti-static monitor wipes they sell. Otherwise a damp (not wet) piece of cloth would work. You don't want any water seeping in or dripping anywhere and you don't want any material that can scratch/scuff the surface.

I vote for the "anti static" wipes for computers... Basically any damp "lint free" cloth will do... but those wipes are good because they are disposable. :D

50/50 mix of rubbing alchohol and water. (dampen towel)

then clean cotton towel to wipe. works well

are those anti-static wipes available at Staples or Office Depot or something? I've never seen those before but if they make special wipes for monitors, I'll just get those. I was not aware of the existence of a product specifically for monitors.

Here are a few...

or you can just look through all the listings on Google for this topic:

BTW... be careful of what you put on your laptop monitor... some of the wipes mentioned above can adversely affect the screen coating on your laptop. (i.e. harsh chemical agents...)

Ok, I say it everytime someone asks this question. Use iKlear. IT works wonders and is 100% safe. I use it on all the computers at work, anyone caught using anything else in this office is subject to being shot.

another vote for that iklear spray. Works wonders its like a wax job for your car. Keeps it nice for a bit longer than just dusting it. Plus it doubles as a cd/dvd buffer if you have some light scratches on your discs.

some good ol' spit shine works for me. j/k... definitely go for the iklear cuz you don't want to be sorry later.

I don't think Windex would melt the screen but Windex DOES remove the anti-glare coatings on most screens. You should never use Windex on a monitor or tv.
