her named is spelled dontia. how would you pronounce that? dontshia right? well, she's kinda new so i frequently hear her say on the phone, "it's actually pronounced dante." (dontay) wtf. that's not even close to what it looks like. she's a nice person but change your freakin' name or how you want it pronounced.

/end rant because she's semi-cool.

You could tell her she has an earwax problem. :hihi:

Does the semi-cool tag imply she sunbathes topless? <BG>

Eh, the only neighbors I have are the unmufflered Harleys from the bar next door. And, I'm not married.

Ie-yi-Yi !1

"on the phone" should have been a tipoff. :) (in no way was my post affected by the intake of alcohol. Riiiight!)

But anyway, perhaps dragging a sunlamp into work would, eh, get her mind onto something else. Otherwise, I do see your point.

It sucks when people can't pronounce your name. I'm in the same boat as I have a Polish last name the often gets butchered and never spelled correctly. But worse is that everytime I introduce myself to someone and say my name the first thing they always say is "what?" What a cursed being I am.

I worked with a fellow with an unpronounceable Polish name. Really decent guy, he's passed away. He was a big burly guy, a weldor. His son, was a ballet dancer. Read into that what you will, everyone else did. But he was always treated with respect. And everyone called him "Eddie A to Z".

A good friend, although I haven't talked with him lately, is from Hong Kong. His (again, there was not a lot of alcohol) americanized his first name, but I relish calling him by his full given name. I think he does appreciate my using his given name.
On the other hand, have you considered changing your name? Please, it's no sort of judgement thing here, but it's not a really painfull sorta thing to do. Yes, it will take some time to get all your ducks in order. Probably a couple of months. Credit card cos might be the biggest stumbling block. Peace.

Samir (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0619651/): No one in this country can ever pronounce my name right. It's not that hard: Samir Na-gheen-an-a-jar. Nagheenanajar.

Hey... you can't help what your Momma named ya or pronounced it... so just get over it.

It's not that hard to say "Don-tay" if that's how it is pronounced... just go with it, relax your mind, and let your concience be free... :D

BTW... are you sure it is ia verus ai? As in Dontai...? Yeah it looks weird, but "tai" is a stretch for the "tay" sound...

My street's name is Gridiron Road. Isn't it obvious that it sounds like something from a football game?

Practically everytime I get a call from someone and I decide I want to give to the organization or I want to buy something from them, they have a hard time pronouncing the street name. They say: Gridder-ahn or Grid-ron, but rarely do they pronounce it correctly.
