NSS: picture contest

well, after buying my new camera, i really got into photography. as i took a few shots, one stood out, and i entered it into an online photo contest. (that was 1 month ago)

yesterday, i got a letter in the mail that said i'm a semifinalist! it's also being published in a book. yay for beginners luck!

Hmm...sounds like some of those "you've been selected for inclusion in Who'se Who In <whatever>" books I've received offers for - only $59.99 to see your name in genuine print. :rolleyes: I've also read about poetry "contests" where anything that gets sent in is determined to be a semifinalist and will be printed in a book that you can buy for only $69.99....

I ask because I submitted a picture there, and I've been getting emails / snail mail from them every since - allowing me to buy the book in which my picture is going to be published, and to attend the International Photographers Society conference in Washington DC.

It just sounds fishy because one of my friends also submitted a picture, and had the same thing happen to him...
