My grandpa just lost $1400 after cashing in his and my grandma's SS checks. He walked down to the bank this morning, and was followed home. He's 87 years old...I don't know what he was thinking. He was choked from behind, then the mugger put his hand into my grandpa's pant pocket, taking out the envelope with all the cash. He ripped my grandpa's pant leg and left a lot of scratches on his leg, but other than that he seems ok...a little shaken up but ok.
The good news is that the mugger dropped a photo of himself. I heard from my aunt the the photo had a house with an address on it, with the person standing in front of the house. Hopefully justice will be served. What sucks so bad is that that's all the money they get for a month.
That sucks man. That mugger's F'd up, even for a mugger. :disa: Sorry about your grandparents' losses.

man...gotta love stupid criminals. Maybe they should allow your grampa to smack the robber when he gets caught.

Heh... he might as well have dropped his Driver's license. :hihi:
I hope they catch the creep, and I'm very glad your Grandpa is ok.

Yeah, stuff like this makes me want to become a DA. Bring down my wrath and the wrath of the state and society all rolled into one. Eh, I'd be too damned vindictive. But anyways I hope they catch him, and give your grandparents a chance to cane him.

Glad to hear your Grandpa'a alright. You might wish to suggest the concept of direct deposit to him. Much safer.

LOL...actually that's a really good idea!
There isn't any update on this, other than I called my city's police dept (El Cerrito, CA), and they said that the Richmond police dept. is handling this case. I left 2 messages for the Richmond family detective, and he hasn't called me back yet. Richmond is a pretty bad crime town, so I know I'm gonna have to be a squeaky wheel before the detectives look at this case.

I used to hang out with my cousin who used to live in El Cerrito as well as Richmond and those places are no joke! He went to Kennedy High School back in the day and I remember him telling me that someone got stabbed for their yearbook...
A good friend of mine works in the Richmond DA's office and he has all kinds of crazy stories as well. Good luck with your grandpa's case and I'm glad he's ok.

man, that sucks. yeah, and old folks carrying around big wads of cash....gets me nervous for them. why carry around so much cash????
:stupid: Not that it was his fault in any way--it most certainly wasn't--but in the future it'd be better if he could deposit the money right away or like somebody else suggested, direct deposit the income.
