View Full Version : Posting requests on the Deals page

What is the problem with making requests on the Deals page? Why does it irritate some of you so much?
I know asking for a camper is a little bizarre but we post test-drive deals all the time. I remember a while back when someone asked for a free Frisbee. A day or so later someone had come up with an ultimate disk from adidas that was free after registering. I was impressed and took advantage of it.
I have made requests in the past and I appreciate the help I've received. Certainly some people could request a little nicer and not demand a response. The words "please" and "thank you" are still part of the English language.

I personally don't see a problem with posting those requests. I might be interested in the same deal too. That was one nice disk.

I don't think people are annoyed at requests. At least I know i am not. I am just a bit irritated if the person does not make title clear, I want at least a ? or something to indicate a request.
I am very willing to fill requests if i know of anything. I myself have made requests.

I think it's mostly the people who do this:

Subject: HARD DRIVE

Does anyone have a good deal on a hard drive?

If people want a deal they should:
-Post the best deal they've found so far, to prove they've done a little work so far
-Be specific about what they want
-Be realistic, no houses or cars
-Use please and thank you
-Post a subject that is descriptive of the request
-Visit pricewatch, and cnet's price comparison

It's not that people are against request, but these courtisies should be followed, and if they aren't then I don't see a problem with people getting pissed off. Everyone is already looking for deals and posting what they find. People aren't going to go and do any extra work for people too lazy or inconsiderate to follow the rules.

i6s1, I've got to disagree with you about getting pissed off at them. That is why we've had some of the threads we've had recently. I think we should try asking them to be more conscientious and explaining why it's a problem instead of yelling at them and calling them names. (I'm not talking about you.) Nobody twisting your arm forcing you to look up these deals for them.

How did these people find this site? Maybe a friend got a great deal and said, "Man, you've got to check this out." I know I've recomended my share of family and friends. I think we just need to be patient and welcome them in. They'll learn.

I don't want yongbros relatives here If they are anything like him. All he has done is accuse and bug me since I put a newbie in his place. Dude just drop whatever you think you know about me. You got the wrong impression about me I am really nice person but I will defend myself and the Deals forum. It says NO REFFERALS in the heeadlines of the got deals which means no posts that better only you, the posts have to be for everyone. Not as In I need coupons or Get me a cheap hard drive now. I could care less about you or your lack of intellegence.

Having been here for a little while, I am inclined to agree with 16fs. Doing a little work is the very least one can expect from someone looking for a deal. However, many, if not most, of the requests I see today are of the poorly titled variety that clearly have had no research behind them. That vacation thread is an excellent example. He didn't even know where he wanted to go!
While I think getting pissed at someone is a little rash, I think 40 of these a day is enough to get people really irritated. Good for you, yongoro, that you found a frisbee, but do you get the feeling that that deal would have been posted regardless of the request? That aside, it would really make surfing through here more enjoyable to see people put some work into finding deals. As I've written before, it helps everyone. http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/Forum9/HTML/000500.html

Since I am the one who made the request about the camper, let me do a little explaining. That request does not constitute a referal. I know because I had to ask what a referal was when I first joined this site because I wanted to make sure I wasn't doing anything against the rules.

I think my title and description were sufficient. I didn't tell you the work I did because I didn't know that I should. That being said, we have looked through the classified pages at newspapers online. I put the post there because I thought some of you might know where I could find a website that dealt with stuff like that. I don't know much about the internet and that's why I had to inquire. I think I used nice words like please and thank you (I'll double check to be sure) and I think my specifications were clear enough. That Paladin guy is just a meanie.

Since I have apologized in the "Got Deals?" and "Need Deals" forum, I might as well do it here. I'm sorry I posted in the "Got Deals?" forum for the camper. I realize that it should have gone in the "Need Deals" forum. I didn't mean to start such a big fuss. Many apologies again. Jennifer

Don't sweat it. And there's certainly no need to apologize in triplicate. I only wish/hope others learn without having to have Paladin sicced on you. http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/smile.gif
I hope you eventually find your camper. The papers are probably as good a place to look as any.

How about I buy you a camper and then give it to you to make amends.
I am sorry for bitching at you.

Hey Jennifer, great name! http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/biggrin.gif I think I posted it in Suckage, but I'll say this here, too. When you posted the question about the camper, there wasn't a Need Deals? forum yet. You were correct in posting it where you did, okay? http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
