Doesnt Apex have one of those on pre order?

That guy's going to back out on the $16k. Congrats to the seller if he gets it though. Not bad money for just a $500 deposit.
Somebody probably didn't read closely while bidding and is thinking he's bidding on the car itself.
You know, some people would pay premiums to get something that is so limited. To each his own.

Wonder if the guy can even pony up the cash to buy the thing or if he just secured a position and planned to ebay the rights.

Wait... it's not for the car? What is the auction for? I'm confused...
You are bidding on the right to buy this car at MSRP
16k for a car like that sounds pretty good...or am i completely missing something (which happens a lot)? :P

the 16K is only a bid for the RIGHT to purchase the vehicle at MSRP - which is what - like $70k or something? (Just guessing).
These cars seem to be rare enough that you have to get your downpayment in early enough to get a "slot" to actually be able to purchase one. If you dont get a "slot" in at teh dealer, you wont be able to buy it as there arent enough of them to go around. I'm sure there is a huge waiting list.
the 16K goes straight to the EBAY seller who already has a "Slot" secured with a dealer... after the auction, he then transfers his SLOT over to the high bidder, and then the bidder pays the full price of the car to the dealer when the car arrives.

so how much did the original guy have to pay for the slot?

oooooh. duh, I read right over it. I feel dumb. but wow.... ok, i now see why there's a post about this. sheesh. I guess some people really like this car.
I also am curious how much the first guy paid to get his slot. or is it some rich person hookups?
The seller merely put down a $500 deposit. He probably did so last jan or feb. It's not like a Ferrari 360, where $60-80k markup buys you the right to buy it in 3 months or so.
MSRP is under $40k.
A few Elise Ebay auctions closed at $8-10k, but I think the buyers backed out.

Yeah I remember this happened back in 2000 when the new BWM 3 series came out. People were paying 10K just to get top priority on the waiting list.

I saw a couple of those when I was in Eurpose last year and can say that they are really nice looking cars. However, they are quite stripped down, that is they are really primitave and short of creature comforts. But they are pretty cheap for what you get.
If you really want one just buy it in Eurpoe and send it over here.

The US version will be a bit nicer than the European version namely:
twin airbags, brake servo and TRW anti-lock brakes, climate control, air-conditioning and carpets and additional sound proofing. It also has a larger fuel tank and a starter button.

What, being 12.0 (faster than a 500hp viper) in the quarter isn't good enough for you? 16K mark up isn't sounding to bad huh?

Unfortunately, it won't quarter at 12 sec. :( I'm not sure how R&T got that initial number, but it's definitely a mistake. It's probably closer to the 13 sec mark, even with the sports pack (which drops the 0-60 time by .2 of a second, to about 4.6 sec).
If I get one, it's definitely going to get some power mods. I'm not sure if it'll be a SC or TC, or even a new engine + forced induction. I've always loved FI, sorry purists. You only have enough power when you can spin your tires right up to the breaking point for the next corner. Performance first, bling and snobbery later. :)

IF you get one??? i thought it was certain that you were going to get one?
Well, we'll see. A lot can happen between now and when my number is called.
