MP3 playing through Home Theater Question....

I have a question and was hoping someone out there knows the answer.

I have always played my music through my computer and the speakers I bought for it. I have a good sized library of MP3's and wanted to know if there was a way to play my MP3's through my home theater system (in addition to playing through my computer). Basically I was thinking through the receiver (Pioneer D-409) and sending it through my speakers around the room. Is this possible? Is there a connection cable I could buy to hook this up? I would love to play all my music that is not on CD through my computer and have the sound run through the home theater system.

totally possible, just get a splitter for your sound card's output jack and send it to your receiver.

no. you get the splitter so you can have 2 ouputs. 1 is the regular PC to computer speakers cable, and the other is where the AV outputs come in...get one of those cords where one end is like headphones input, and the other end is a/v output...i know they sell em at all stores like best buy, etc. but i do not know what they are called....

You either run the output to your recievers CD in or you have to buy a White and red thingy to put it on analog. That is what I am doing. It works fine.

Depending on the sound card that you have, you have a couple of options. If you have a Soundblaster Live, you could get the "AudioDrive" thingy. It connects to the soundcard internally and mounts in a drive bay. Has all kinds of sound ins and outs. If you're planning on sending sound through any kind of "real" audio equiptment, it would help to have a good card. The bigger speakers and better definition are going to make all the little imperfections in the MP3's big. The better sound card can at least cut out some of the quality issues.
