Increased standard of living leads to decreased birthrate. This is the best foreign policy.

Increased standard of living may decrease the birthrate, but it also increases urbanization, which leads to a whole series of other problems, like the green house effect and loss of biodiversity. This isn't the best foreign policy. The best would require something with no flaws.

Increased standard of living for a large majority of people in the world will take the spread of cleaner energy technologies that are not in common use today. It doesn't have to mean more nuclear power plants, coal burning plants, or dams.
I bet the old alternate energy patents which were previously suppressed for various reasons are being dusted off as we speak.

That isn't entirely true although it is a nice thought though. You know that the greedy multicorporations and rich countries will never let that happen. These avarice ridden jerks only care about profit. They don't care about the standard of living in Third World Countries. They only care about the money that they could make from them. Cleaner technology requires a big budget and time. The only type of people that have money to actually come up with "cleaner energy technologies" are the rich and they don't want to spend their precious profits on it. It is all about the politics, not the actually science(population push) that determines the environment. Although, the innovation of science is something that has increased the standard of living and,no doubt, may even be able to create cleaner energy technologies, but the concept of politics will never let that happen.

We can always focus on being like the Gundams http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/biggrin.gif Spcae colonys that have perfect air, weather and everything =) I think countries really should think of ways to clean things up or find better methods of energy gather and stuff. I would hate the natural beauty of this place end up in ruins. The beutiful three gorges, destroyed for a dam ... o well i guess that is the way things are headed if they can't find another way of gathering energy and stuff
