Alright, here's my deal---I'm heading off to college at the end of the summer. Currently I own a beefed up eMachines M6807 laptop (7200Hitachi, 1024ram, OC'ed to 2100mhz - really an awesome machine). Anyways, I some of the infinite wisdom that surrounds this form.

I have 2 Dell E172FP LCD Monitors and another desktop which I built a few months back (Abit IC7-G, P4 [email protected], 1024XMS, RAID 5, etc).

My question is this -- what should I take to college as a freshman? I dont expect perfect things at college, so nothing amazing. The laptop will be going, I know, but regarding screens? I want another LCD screen, and something solid to remain at home - suggestions? I thought about buying a Dell 2001FP but then heard some negative things. Now I see this deal for a frickin 23" LCD from HP. What do you think? What is most cost effective? I just want working space, I mean 16ms response time is slick, dont get me wrong, but opinions?

Thanks ahead of time fellas, Dale

I'd hold off from buying a new LCD. Take one of the 2 you currently have. You don't know what it's going to be like (living situation wise) yet so best to minimize any potential loss

Alright, well I really only can take one anyways, since my laptop can expand accross 2 monitors (1 external).

Thanks for the advice? Any others?
Dale

Things do have a tendency to walk away. Plus people will want to use (and abuse)your stuff often if it is too nice. Keep it simple.

Don't take anything off to college that would devistate you if it got, oh, I don't know... say... stolen, scratched, smashed, drowned, dropped, dented, disassembled or any other destructive-sounding "D" or "S" word that you can think of.

Bring something that is as indestructable as possible... yet impressive enough to wow the babes, of course ;)

yeah just take the laptop and one monitor.
you might also want to take along those laptop security cables, so nothing grows feet and takes off
