since they can't speak for themselves - do you ever put words in your pet's mouth?

Of course I do. How could you not do it. Then again, it helps when they actually respond by barking at you.

how 'bout your trouser snake?I don't talk for him. He does his own talking. He's a real "Straight shooter" too, if you know what I mean.

I talk to and for my pets all the time.

My dog (1/2 border collie) understands quite a few words....stay, walk, potty, outside, "get-the-kitty!" (my favorite) ;) ...

When I had a cat, I used to speak to her. I initially tried to ignore her but she started getting really pissy about me ignoring her so I broke down and talked to her.

Oops... ignore my previous post. I read it as "do you ever talk to your pets." I never talked for my cat. Figure she should be able to defend herself in an argument.

Have you really tried talkin to your fish, df? I mean really tried.
C'mon and put some effort in it and see if they want to communicate. At first it might just be a slight nod or wave of a flipper, but eventually.....
