Ok....if you hear the song, Holding out for a Hero....what movie comes to mind?
What about seeing someone lean back on a chair and get dunked with water?
I find it interesting how easily I can remember these things yet I find that other people have no recollection of things from the past. I hear a song or see a picture and can immediately place it.

Well... audio, visual, and smell cues can trigger the most powerful of memories... Especially if you were having an exceptionally good or bad time when it happened.

I was watching Shrek 2 with my wife and they obviously have a lot of throwbacks in the animation and music to other "classics". So on the way out, I ask her if she remembered where a bunch of these things were from. She looked at me and told me that she didnt recognize them. I just found that to be really odd.
Footloose and Flashdance were where two of the songs were from.

I have to ask, how is it that you have not seen either of those movies? I can understand younger people who werent cognizant in the late 70's and early 80's that might not have seen these things, but I would assume that any bicentennial baby would have seen these movies. They used to show them all the time on the networks.

i used to not really like movies. i really didn't start getting into movies until about 5 years ago. as such growing up i didn't see a lot of stuff that most everyone else saw...like Star Wars. Never seen em.

Johnny five is ALIVE! :D ;)
Ahh, Short Circuit! :)
I honestly admit to never seeing Flashdance or Footloose either -- but then I just never seemed to bother watching them when they were on TV.

I'm only 18 but I knew Footloose and Flashdance. How?
Well.... I was just in the musical Footloose and had seen the movie and it's in the show too. And somebody just made a music video in Flashdance style, so that's how I knew that.

i've never seen flashdance, but i have seen footloose a couple times. you should watch it BI, i think you would enjoy it.
(btw, i'm in the same boat as you, as i was raised in a bubble free from all pop culture influences. there are TONS of movies i have never seen that everyone thinks i should have seen)

if you were a kid in the 80s those references would make sense. :)
or if your big brother or sister made you sit with them to watch them movies. :P
