I'm sure that selling his PS2 is going to suddenly turn him into an angel. If his parents had actually punished him earllier, none of this would have happened. If he doesnt know the value of a $, then teach him the value of the dollar by making him work off the $200. When he pays it off, then he gets his PS2 back. This just seems like parents who are over reacting and thinking revenge is a good punishment. Its only going to foster resentment which could easily lead to more acting out. But rather than being forthright with his parents, which he was this time by owning up to his actions, he will lie remembering how they reacted last time.

well, in all fairness, judging by the author's spelling and grammar, they don't seem like the brightest people in the world, so the punishment isn't surprising.

I don't know why, but I felt bad for the kid. It feels like it borders the proverbial "two wrongs don't make a right" but if I caught my kid drinking at 13, I'd be pissed too. (I would be less worried about the money if I were the parents. All they're teaching him to do is buy his own damned beer.)

How is selling his ps2 a "wrong" though? it jsut seems like another punishment.

Its wrong simply because of the reason its being done. If they told the kid he had to raise the money to repay them and he chose to sell it, then it would be a different, but they are doing it solely to be vindictive. (At least that is what the original ebay pitch sounds like)

Wow... now that's hardcore. :wow:
Yeah, I could see havin' stuff locked away and being grounded... but sold on Ebay and then having the story told to the world.
I bet if that kid's friends ever get wind of this auction, he's gonna be the laughin' stock of his school...

:heh: That is hella funny. Little punk got what he deserved, of course the parents seem a bit negligent in their leaving the kid at home, also shouldn't the booze be under lock and key?

talk about the way to make a bad kid who's already having problems bitter, resentful, and hateful. this is going to accomplish nothing for them.
but quite frankly, it's entirely possible that it's just made up as a way to attract more people to the auction and drive up the bidding.

Good. Nice to know that I'm not the only one paranoid enough to think this.

that would be stupid, you're supposed to educate not just say this is a no no and lock it away.

besides, the kid was 13 for pete's sake... maybe his parents didn't realize that he'd try drinking at such a young age. i'm betting there's no pricey alchohal laying around anymore w/o some serious precautions. i'm sure every parent has done something stupid that we could all holler about and claim they're horrible parents because they didn't have the foresight to do _____.
as for the kid turning bitter... if he's going to pout over a 200 dollar toy that his parents gave him, he should get off his butt, and go make some money and buy it himself. it's not like his parents locked him in a room and forbid him all the luxories of life... they took away a video game console.
