I've had a cat since I was 9. Her name is Brandi. I recently found out she is approaching that age where she is too old to go on.

Since she is my cat, what happens to her is my decision. I refused to let my mother have her put to sleep since she is one of the family. Brandi will die naturally at home, where she belongs.

I'm 22 now, to give you an idea of how old she is. She will be missed when she passes. :(

Corsec - I know its a tough thing to do, but if your cat is in pain and not enjoying life, its probably better to just put her down. I'm not trying to be callous.....but rather giving you the same logic that was said to me when my pup had to be put under.

Either way you have my sympathy.

I feel for ya, but remember-if animals could speak she would probably ask you to not let her suffer..when it's her time you'll know it. Make sure you have loads of pictures....I say this as my sweet pup is sitting at my feet where she always is...I'd be a wreck if anything happened to her but I would never let her go if i could because she's been too good of a friend. But this I'll remember when she looks at me with those sad eyes and tells me it's time.

I have unfortunately had to put a few of my cats down. My oldest, Sassy, was 22 years old when we had to put her down. The vet said that she was the oldest cat he had ever had the pleasure of taking care of for all of those years. She had trouble walking and was in pain, you could just tell it was her time.

Cuddles, my best friend, developed cancer when she was 16. We had it removed but it redeveloped and she died of natural causes when I went away for a weekend.

A few months ago, my mother had to put down another one of our cats who was 16 at the time. Her death took me a bit more by suprise as she seemed healthy although had been put on some meds.

Even as I wrote this, I just got all teary eyed....but the only thing that conforted me is the fact that they no longer suffered. Even though its hard you have to do what is best for the animals.

My husband, had to put down his cocker shortly after we got together. As he mentioned earlier, he still gets all upset thinking about it and wont go past that vets office to this day. He even still carries a picture of him in his wallet.

Awwww. :neartears That is really sad. I love both of my cats and I've lost a few through the years, I only hope for you that when Brandi goes it's peacefully.

i know how you feel Corsec, pets are just like family members, but when the time comes give her some mercy and have her put to rest.

remember in the book "What Dreams May Come" it says we get to see our pets again after we die. i am going with that. :)

What a terrible loss! I had to put my cat to sleep nearly 2 years ago. I can still remember the heartbreak I went through.

Only another cat helped me to get over it.

I feel for you.
