I just got through reading the entire RIP REAGAN thread and I could not believe how ONE PERSON initially turned it into a free-for-all. While I respect the fact that everyone is entitled to their own opinions..crapping on someone else's thread like that was just wrong...so with due process, I am here by requesting of the powers that be-to give Canta his own little section of G|A so that when he want's to be a pain in the ass-anyone who wants to debate him can go there and do so...in Canta's defense, I give him credit for speaking his mind. CONSTANTLY. IN EVERYONE'S THREADS. REGARDLESS OF WHETHER OR NOT ANYONE GIVES A SH|T ABOUT WHAT HE IS SAYING...so how about it Higher ups-Give him his "A DAY IN HISTORY FORUM"..and let the arrows fly.

What good would banning you do? Would you then learn that what you did was inappropriate? Sometimes I appreciate that you speak your mind but sometimes (e.g. the Reagen RIP thread) I think you are just out of line.

having met both of them irl, i think they're both cool people. however, canta, i don't think you give people and and their opinions the same level of respect and tolerance that you would in person. in the event att said to your face, "reagan just died. rip.", would you say, "now he can pay for his sins."? (not a direct quote) i doubt it.

as far as lk, i have rarely been on the opposite side of an argument and can't really comment. he's very smart and has lots of data to back up his arguments. but as they say, a person convinced against his will is of the same opionion still.

I wouldn't go quite that far Canta... that's just being "overly dramatic" here.

But as you stated in a later post, those that are bothered by your banter can easily "ignore" you if it really is that bad. Honestly, I guess my mind just automatically filters out the stuff that really doesn't mean anything to me... but some folks just can't process this info like that.

BTW... back in the day, I think we did used to have "temporary forums"... Maybe they will start one up for ya. :D

On a side note... people generally don't like OPPOSITION to their opinions, however some deal with it better than others. Honestly, it just seems that some folks around here get bent WAY outta shape over what is said and it just gets tiresome at times having to always defend your personal opinions and beliefs from the critique and critisims of your fellow forum members.

Does this kind of dialogue REALLY make us better people when it comes down to "name callin'" and character defamation? Personally, I don't think that it does... but that's my opinion and I'm sure SOMEBODY will disagree with that (which is fine by me...)

ROFL, that has to be the funniest post i have seen in a while.

I would say everything in RL as I have said on here, I have no qualms about getting into it with a friend when we are together. In fact, I value friends who are able to speak their mind and differ opinions, having too many "Yes" friends leads to nothing but mental apathy.

If I were to meet canta again, I would go in thinking that what he says on here is something of a release form what he feels in life, which is what it is for me sometimes, so I can relate and understand.

However, i'd have to rip him up a bit in public for saying something so stupid as what he said in the Reagan post.

It's not that anyone "owns" them but there has to be some order. While there are virtually no rules on the Internet and only a few here in the Forums, that doesn't mean there isn't some decorum, protocol and common sense. Without that, you have total anarchy. That decorum is what stops most folks from posting non sequiturs to every thread.

I've got no problem with anarchy...but in the proper place. :winkie:

Ok... I can go with that.

However answer me this... (and I'm not trying to argue here mind you...)

Had Canta started a new thread... which stated his feelings about Reagan, during this period of "mourning"... then would people still have the same reaction (i.e. respect for the dead)?

Personally, I think he would STILL have gotten the same reaction (but alas this is just an assumption...) since the folks who have lifted Reagan up as a hero would be offended by this "blasphemy" of the recently deceased. I'll agree though... tact and timing are definitely critical when discussing topics like this.

Actually, he might have gotten quite a bit of the same reaction from some people. But if it had been done in the correct forum, in a new topic, then it is a political discussion. Not bashing someone that just died. My opinion, such as it is.

Give me a freaking break here. Canta and I have gotten into it before. We have different views on some things, similar views on others. If you have a problem with what he said, either ignore him (by just not paying attention to his post or hitting the ignore button) or you can be constructive, take it to PM and ask him to explain his statement and do your best to deconstruct it while bolstering your own point of view.

Many of us are guilty of mental masturbation on occassion....canta (among others) likes to stretch his mental muscle more often than not and his opinion just happens to run heavily to one side.

While I agree that some of his posts are definite flame bait and should not have been made, suggesting that he gets his own forum is giving him more credit that is fair.

It may be a "virtual world", but I assure you.... most of the people in this community are "quite real".

Yeah, you don't have to "take everything said here personally", but people do still have feelings and others who choose to participate in this "community" should at least respect that.

That is the difference between a forum like G|A and just some average "joe blow" message board.
