I'm looking for something to fit a particular need but I have no idea if it exists.
I'm looking for a sort of storage bin that has a lock on it to secure it. Something to hold like documents and valuables. I don't want a heavy safe, nor do I want a filing cabinet. Something portable.
Any ideas? I tried to look on the office depot site, but didn't find anything.
btw something like this maybe only with a lock (key, combination, fingerprint, etc.) and with (or without) the folders.

Any ideas? I tried to look on the office depot site, but didn't find anything. You should be able to get a small lockbox at a lot of hardware stores, and I'm sure you should find something at home depot or office depot or staples as well. I'm thinking of one that I had as a kid to hold my paper route money. It was a metal box about 14" wide x 9" long x 5" high, with a metal latch like a fishing tackel clasp that could be locked with a key, and a carrying handle on top. They're common enough where you shouldn't have much trouble finding one.
Here it is, its just called a cash box:

hmm...that's almost what I want...but I need something to hold a bit more than that. Like I want to be able to dump all my documents, some jewerly, and some other things so I guess I need a bigger one of those.
I was thinking of getting a footlocker, but it's too big...
I'll go to home depot (need keys made anyways) and see what I can find. Thanks dude!

make sure whatever kind of box you get is FIREPROOF especially if you are going to be storing valuables in there...

As Faither said, you can find hard cased file boxes that have holes for padlocks. Probably your best bet.

Heh. Nerd alert! What's funny is that when you show that picture, I just hear that parody of Gore saying "lock box" in that slow, deliberate voice.

went to home depot and got me a fireproof box (file size).
http://www.sentrysafe.com/Products.asp?r=3&s=8
Look at the 1170.
It's alright and it was $40, but it's not media rated. But I figure I'm not paying like $200 for media safe fireproof box (i remember a thread about this) size I don't have much electronic media I want to save.
Thanks for your help guys!
