View Full Version : Spiky Hair
I need to know how to spike my hair kinda like this guys':

My hair is about that length, but I can never get it to spike all cool like that.
the only way I know how to do it is, let my hair dry, then take a moderate amount and rub into my hair, making sure as many are stiking out as possible.
but I want the straight up spikes.
Thanks :D

Gel it up spiky when wet. Wait for it to dry than run your hands through it to get it to break up the hair thats stuck together, but not so violently that it makes it fall down. Once its totally dry you can run your hands through again with a little gel and it should look like that guy's. I've had spiked hair (though not like his) for about 6 years now I'm getting to know all the tricks hehe.
You might also want to wear a head band or visor for a little while (not joking) to help train your hair to go in that direction.

GET HAIR WAX!!!....it works great. But too much calls for a dose of dawn dish liquid to remove it. ...............

Can I see your hair  ?
Do you want the "wet" look or not? It doesn't look like that guy has the wet look. Gel would give you a wet look while othe products won't.

use the maximum hold gel on towel dried hair, and then after it dries a bit put hairspray on it.
I like this look:

but then I also like:

Does that give you guys more an idea of what I'm looking for? :)

I buy my son Spiker by ICE. It's a "glue" not a gel... feels really tacky and he still has baby fine hair and this stuff holds his hair all day (and he is an active 7 yr old) through sweat and horse play.
http://shop.store.yahoo.com/usabeautysupplies/hair-styling-products-ice-hair.html gives you an idea about the products (I don't buy him the colors or metallics, but I am sure one day, he will want some)
Well you'll probably have to experiment with it a bit because everyone's hair is different. It's best to put gel in when it's damp but not wet --- but not dry. Just towel dry it and then put gel in it and spike it up.
That ice stuff is SUPER strong. It's like cementer. You can lay a book on your head and I swear it won't flatten the hair.

well, i'm asian with a really full, thick, coarse head of hair, so you can take my words with a grain of salt... i know most of yall caucasians have thinner, more "moldable" hair than i do.
having said that, i've tried many different spikey hairstyles, from the conservative straight up style, to the "i-just-woke-up" messy style, to the insane japanese afro-spike style, and i must say i've had the most success with putty/clay/wax type hair products.
i used to use gel, but if you break the spike at some point, gel always creates flakes. for a little while, i tried "It's A Black Thang Beez Wax" (a real product, believe it or not), but it was just too freakin greasy and wouldn't wash out for three days' worth of showers. then i started using some stuff called "molding clay" by the company Crew, and that stuff worked pretty well, also washing out very easily.
since i'm assuming you have thinnish hair, if you decide to use any products of the clay/putty/wax variety, a pretty good rule of thumb is to take about a dime-size (or nickel-size) dollop of the stuff and rub it between your palms until it's spread evenly. then run your hands through your hair and pinch at it in several places to create the spikey look. if you want it to look crazier, just start smashing the palms of your hands onto your head and grabbing at random tufts of hair.
if you want the straighter spikes, you might actually want to go with gel, since its main job is to hold hair. i never had to worry about straight spikes because my hair is already so coarse and straight, that if my hair is 4-5 inches long or shorter, it sticks straight out from my head, so all i would have to do is apply gel and let the hair just stick straight out naturally. i don't know of many white people with hair like that...

HAIR WAX ... another vote... that stuff rules.
