I had the misfortune of being out of town the day my Dell dream system appeared for less than $700. It seems like none of the past month's deals even come close.

Do good deals run in a cycle or something? Do they drop prices just before the end of each quarter so their sales figures look good to investors? I'm trying to plan my next computer purchase, but I'm not settling for any of these crappy deals of late.

Just takes patience. I don't think anyone can predict the deals. They seem to be random. Although, with lots of new hardware coming out I would expect Dell to try to make room for new inventory soon.

What type of deal are you looking for? Which Dell model?

4600 preferably. They seem to have the most value for the buck.

Traditionally the best deals come right before school starts for the college bound. Ends up benefiting the old fogeys too...like DF.....and some of the rest of us. :hihi:

So what was wrong with the current deal for a 4600 for $499 that was posted on the deals page?

Dimension 4600 Desktop with 2.8Ghz P4, 256MB DDR SDRAM, 80GB HD, 48x CD-RW for $499 after Rebate with FREE Shipping!

Was it missing something that you were looking for?

Well, the deal I absolutely would've jumped on, had I not been out of town when it was posted, was a 4600 with a P4, 256, 40 or 80 GB (who cares), and 17" LCD for under 700 bucks.

The LCD is the clincher. And I can't drop back down to a 15" monitor, so I've gotta hold out for the 17.

Well I guess you're gonna be waitin' for awhile...

I don't think that THAT deal will come back around anytime soon... Personally, I think that one was a mistake that they just went ahead and made good on it. :D
