Some of you may remember me from websites such as this one.

That was college when i had wayyyy to much time on my hands. I was the post leader, me and hapoo hit 1500, wow! That was when a 40GB Hard drive, a leather chair, a laptop bag + a box of paper clips combined to be $25.56 shipped after 3 stacked coupons.

You know what else was cool? Echo! I think it was called. Those stupid little programs that gave you amazon GC's for listening to their dumb radio stations and rating songs. And alladvantage! $200 a month for their ugly toolbar. Anyway thats it for the nostalgia.

The reason for my post is 'cuz I just read an article on gmail (http://www.wired.com/news/infostructure/0,1377,63786,00.html?tw=wn_tophead_3), that the market is being flooded with invites so people can't even sell em on ebay. Which made me wonder: I'm relatively so well connected! I'm a huge freaking geek, i'm a J2EE programmer!! Why the hell don't I have Gmail?? I have orkut? I thought orkut was cool, but apparently that doesn't certify me as cool

So i'm here to hope that one of my old friends can hook me up with an invite because no one of my real life friends is cool enough to have gmail

I'm basically begging so I hope this isnt spam.

I updated my profile in the time you posted! I was UMCP. graduated last may and moved onto a boring existance programming, drinking, computing and sleeping in nearby, semi-affluent bethesda. I have a special place in my heart for the lovely town (read: intersection and adjacent campus area) of CP and its neighbor hyattsville. Went to the courthouse a few times! :cry:

Its like the South Park where Cartman buys his own amusement park, no one wanted to go to it, it was struggling. He wants it to himself because his pet peeve in life is lines. He puts out ads on TV that scream "This is my park, and you cant come!!" Of course this makes everyone want to go to Cartmanland.

Basically I feel left out. I want to see what the fuss is about.

Someone sent me (unknowing that I use 2MB hotmail) a 1.25 MB photo. Since of course I stlil had about ~1MB worth of mail, which is absolutely nothing, of course my account is frozen. damn hotmail. That is just unnacceptable. I must say although not quite visually pleasing, gmail looks very promising!

Basically, Google "credits" current Gmail users intermittantly with an "INVITE", and with no particular rhyme reason or formula. They can then use that invite on whoever they choose. Those of us joining google need to wait for google to bless us with an invite credit.

Many of the original users got invited through their blogger account. Blogger members logged in to find a gmail invite one day a couple months ago. I got mine when my office mate activated through that link, as me.

cornmonkey hooked me up with a guy who (i think) works at google and sent out a whole buncha invites.

after you use it for a while, you get a bunch of invites.
i got my first after like a week and a half or so (went to my sis).
then i got 3 after like a month.

unfortunately, i don't use it much, cuz my work blocks out internet mail :-(

Didnt see your edit! I work at a consulting firm which now sponsors a local golf tournament. its semi big local news dont want to shout it everywhere. I do j2ee development and alot of consultant speak CMM overhead activities.

this may seem like sort of a stupid question, but for those of you who have gmail...

being that gmail is still technically in "beta," is it nevertheless pretty safe to go ahead and start using it as my main email account? i'm running out of space on my three hotmail accounts, so it'd be nice if i could send out a mass email to my contacts, telling them to start emailing me at the gmail address.

i just don't want to log on to my gmail account one day and find out some huge drastic change took place and everything got accidentally wiped or something....

I agree. I signed up yesterday and already got 3 invites. After paying off the guy who lent his invite to me, the person he forced me to invite, and my roomate, I need more invites. The good thing here is people are getting more invites these days. Next one I get I will Pay It Forward to the guys here and hope it starts a domino effect.

i spent 13.5 yesterday which is lower than most are going for. if there are a ton of them than 15-17 is the going price. if there are just a few for that 1/2 hour then 19-22 is the price.

i have mine at a BIN price of $18.20. I would happily change it to $16 or so if a Apexer wanted it that badly. I'm just trying to recoup the money I spent on it. ($13.5 plus ebay and paypal fees.)
