got a customer that thinks he has a corroded copper heatsink after 1 day...

put some stuff called "nanotherm" on it, and foudn a website caliming that it causes "Corrosion" in three weeks.... all the pictures of this "corrosion" just looked like discoloration to me, and no real corrosion.... in my mind, copper corrsion is green crystals.

any help would be appreciated.

do you have any pics of the "corrosion"



copper oxidation looks green....maybe it's the nanotherm degrading......

The texture of the surface will help determine if its discoloration or corrosion. If its smooth its okay. You might want to remove the nanaotherm and check the area. If its okay then reapply.

and yeah - in my mind, you need oxygen to make the copper oxidize, and turn green... all we have here is a slight discoloration.

these pics are after one day, and hes scared to death that in 3 weeks thats gonna be some terrible oxidized spot or something and that its gonna raise temp by 10 degrees...

I'm no expert but that doenst look bad at all.
That looks like my hs... TT right? Anyways I've had 2 all copper units and the 1st one has a couple of greenish areas after a few years... It's from the oils on the hand when I move it. Just clean it with some alcohol and it should be fine for the life of the rig.

that's definately not corrosion. That's discoloration and copper always does that. Your customer is an idiot. Stop dealing with idiots and you'll be fine :D

See this is your problem, you are taking the customer's word. And notice how you used the word "thinks". Customers do not even have to ability or brain capacity to do that. It is alrught, nano, one day you will learn.

ps, in the pics it looks like someone has lightly scratched the crap out of the surface. It could just be the pic though.

nah - those heatsinks dont have a mirror surface...

for the record, this has little to nothing to do with computers - more with chemicals and chemical reactions (for our purposes, we could just predend i have a 1' square copper block)

i know the customer is full of it. Theres no doubt in my mind... i was hoping for someone with a degree to be able to write an explanation so i could hand it off to the customer...

cant stop dealing with him because he's some kind of friend of the owners son... but i can prove him to be stupid as many times as i want.
