COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Fraternity members who packed fireworks into an antique cannon that exploded, punching a hole through a roof and blowing out the window of an apartment across the street, have been banned from serving alcohol at parties.
The Kappa Alpha fraternity at the University of Missouri also must lead two safety presentations. The alcohol ban lasts through the 2004-2005 school year.
Three fraternity members, including the chapter president and vice president, are awaiting trial on misdemeanor charges stemming from the April 29 explosion. One cast iron fragment crashed through the ceiling of a nearby apartment building and landed on a pingpong table during a game.
The university and the fraternity's national office, based in Lexington, Va., confirmed the sanctions to the Columbia Daily Tribune.
Chapter president Seth R. Fagan, 21, told police he fired the cannon as part of an annual tradition, according to court documents. He is charged with reckless exploding and third-degree assault, both punishable by one year in jail and a $1,000 fine.

Wow, sucks for those guys...
Boston area fraternities are pretty strictly controlled by the local police/university administrations because of a death from alcohol poisoning a few years ago (Scott Kreuger, you Greeks should be familiar with the name) at MIT. The current president of my school was at that point the Chancellor of MIT, and had to deal with all this stuff. Needless to say, the Greek system at my school is pretty much dead right now.
Case in point, the Delta Tau Delta chapter at my school has been ordered to go dry for a year after an allegation of having a couple kegs during rush (it's dry rush here). While that may not be that bad of a punishment, the university found out about the kegs by getting a subpoena from the ATF force in Massachusetts State Police and seizing the local liquor store's keg registry, and finding out about it. All this from a single allegation. Most schools would scoff at this, but it's the reality in Boston.

KA was always known for their cannons and a certain antiquated belief system...if you know what I mean. Their beliefs were evident if you looked at where the cannons were pointed.
That said....it could have just been rumors. If you traced the history of my house, Jefferson Davis was a brother...not something I knew until well into my pledgeship, but it had nothing to do with the fraternities views.

 It wasnt exactly a new comment, I alluded to it in the other thread but no one caught it...hence why I repeated it.
Now Nickel...there's no reason for you to get all in a tither because your post was pointed out as a repost. Everyone, and I do mean everyone...myself included, has been guilty of the occassional repost.

Good Ol' Mizzou. And to think they didn't offer me an ounce of scholarship. I can see it went to much smarter individuals.
