I was just watching "What Women Want" with Mel Gibson (thoughts of obby immediately come to mind) and Helen Hunt.
Near the end of the movie they kiss and she raises one leg. I know they did this a lot in the older movies but do any of you women really do this IRL?

Thank you for thinking of me. :)
and it's wierd you should ask this question, because last week at Barnes and Noble I was skimming through a book about old Hollywood fashions, and there was a paragraph regarding this same issue...apparently,it had to do with movie visuals and their wardrobes.way back, in the heyday of the likes of the old screen stars like Jimmy Stewart and Betty Davis (etc) women almost always wore 2 and a half inch or higher spiked heels...(that was the style don't forget-think June cleever and her dresses and heels to clean the house) the height of the heel was adjusted so that the actress wasnt taller than the leading man. Men of course in those days didn't know too much about Heightening-so in order for kissing scenes to work with shorter men-the women -ho's height was compromised for kissing because of high shoes would have had to bend at the knees in order to achieve the man leaning over into a passionate kiss effect.Fast Forward ....
When directors realized that there was an easier way to accomplish this "getting the actor taller than the actresses
s" effect ...what they did was to alter height of the heels and make one considerably shorter than the other...the only way to NOT tell the difference in heel size was to separate the feet in a way that was ladylike...so while balancing on the shorter heel, the actress would raise her leg with the unaltered shoe-to the camera to get that "woo look at her sexy leg with sexy shoe" response..AND IT WORKED...if you notice=these shots on camera almost NEVER show the other foot in the shoe-but when it does you can't tell the difference in the height of the heel due to perception..it was a trick that carried over into todays movies and tv shows because it gives that vintage big movie passionate kissing scene effect to the kiss...

Our wedding photographer actually had my wife do this during our engagement shoot. Seemed odd at the time but made for some great looking pictures.
