View Full Version : If you could....

Obviously many of us have lived in numerous locations. Some of us love where we are now, some of us hate it. Thus, the question is....if you could live anywhere (including where you are currently living) where would it be and why?
I would definitely move back to the Sunshine state and if I had my choice (unrealistically) I would live down in the keys. Probably Marathon. But more realistically, i would be happy to be back in the Boca/Ft. Lauderdale area.
My reasons. I love the weather, I love the warm water, I can get all the food I like there(in terms of different types not amount), I can dive, fish, and do everything else I want without freezing my arse off. Everything is much closer together on the east coast and most of my family is on that side of the country.
So what is everyone elses answer.

I would love to live in Dalat, VN because of great weather and fresh air.

Hmm.. tough question.
Donnie and I both know we won't be making a home here after our tour is done in Vegas. I mean, we are getting to like it, but we both agree something smaller would be nice. Car insurance would go down so that would be a plus too.
So far, it is between two places: California, central coast or back to the Midwest (OK, MO, or IL). We loved California. The weather, the people were for the most part okay :) and we have some family there.
The midwest because cost of living, we have family in IL and friends around that whole area and it's so much slower there! Everyone here and in CA seems to be in a hurry to go somewhere. I miss fireflies and thunderstorms and being able to buy gas for under $2 -- even when the prices are high!
Anywhoo, thanks for making me homesick.... ;)

Washington DC. Fo sho. And UF, aren't you a lawyer? Lawyers are some of the few people on earth who can afford a home in Boca or the Keys. :)
Anyway, I pick DC because it's the most amazing city I've ever been to. There is never a shortage of things to do, and the Metro is the world's most awesome subway. I like when the drivers mock the silent people in the cars. Makes your whole day better.
Oh! Plus there's that guy at (if I remember correctly) the Foggy Bottom stop, and he's always playing his keyboard. One day, as I was coming up the escalator, he was singing "Well we movin on up!" It put me in such a good mood I dropped a five spot on the guy before I went to work. Good times, man. Good times.
The drawback? It's nearly as hot as FL in the summer. :(

Probably Flagstaff AZ.
I'm sick of the A-hole Californians (and yes I've lived here all of my life).
I want some space, an affordable place to live, beautiful scenery, and SEASONS.

If I could find a job that pays what I make here in Indy, I'd move back to Pensacola, FL....
Pretty much, it would be a nice living.... :D

no freakin' way dOOd. pensacola, and no offense intended, is a ****hole. my parents lived there for a few years and i didn't like the city at all. the beach is incredible tho'. turquoise water, pure white sand, and manta rays swimming around.
the city is very poor. tons of pawn shops, tiny mom and pop places, etc. it's prolly b'cuz of the navy base.
i'm sure there are nice places there, but i don't think i could afford to live in one.
my two favorite places to live are denver and asheville, nc.
I'd move to Lugano, Switzerland or up to a place near Whistler/Blackcomb

i live in chicago...i'm of all the places i've lived i've decided to stay put (probably has more to do with moving around most of my youth than anything)...chicago would be great (read: better) if the weather was more static and if the traffic wear more bearable...oh and if the all the major league sports teams didn't suck..

Yep, I am a lawyer, but there are lots of non-lawyers in Boca and the keys. Lots of people. Doctors, Surgeons, Lawyers, Dive Instructors, Golf Pros, Professional Athletes, Tennis Pros, the help :).

I figure I've got at least another 20 years until my diet catches up with me so what's a couple hours on the 405. Fresh air is overrated. Actually, I've been to cities with fresh air and I find that I have trouble breathing air without at least 10% carbon monoxide in it. :P Anyways, where else can I get thai tea brought to me by a girl with fake boobies at 4 AM. :)

right now, i can't imagine really wanting to move away from NYC. but instead of morningside heights, i'd like a place in NoLiTa or maybe in the low 70s on the upper west side. or maybe the west village.

hmm don't know the finger lakes... but my grandparents live on Lake George in upstate NY... man it is nice up there. Well during the summer heh. They go to Savannah during the winter.
But i would probably get the hell out of Boston and go somewhere in california. Maybe back home to the Seattle area, but i liked Cali, nothern cali. er or San Diego.

Actually, the help lives here in West Palm. Of course, with the property values here skyrocketing, they'll soon be living in St. Lucie.

I would probably move back to the Northern Sierra region of California. I grew up near there and spent a lot of later years exploring that area in my car on weekends doing things like mountain biking, camping, fishing, hiking, canoeing, etc. That was before I settled in the Los Angeles area on a permanent basis. I still miss it and every time I go home I spend hours driving around wondering when I'll be able to come back on a permanent basis.

Hey... you're entitled to your opinion (which is WRONG.. but still yours). :D
My city is poor? Poor in what? Poor in folks who can't appreciate the "simplicity" of that style of living. Oh well.. you can have your "metropolis"... I'll take Smallville. Thanks. :D

I've fallen in love with Skaneateles, NY. A friend from college is an OB/GYN in town and we've visited on a number of ocassions. Simply beautiful.
Looks like relocating is in our future though as within the next 6-9 months we'll be moving down south. I have a great opportunity with my current company to help establish a new business center in the New Tampa area of FL.
I've spent a few weekends down there recently scouting areas to move the family. Seems like a very nice area. While I'm sure I'd miss the seasons up here in the north east, the climate is a big attraction for me.

Either way... I can understand you not liking living in a "smaller town"... as if Indianapolis is REALLY the "big city"
Geographically... it is bigger... however it's just a "hick town" once you boil it down to the basics. :hihi:

I love Huntington Beach. It's so... pleasant.
I loved living in the bay area, but that'd seriously bother me anytime I even thought about politics. Though it would be a fun fight to be the Republican candidate over there. Still, I could really enjoy living in the silicon valley because that's not as liberal as other parts of that area.

Actually our help lived in three different places...west boca (the cheaper area), Delray, and Boyton. Then of course there were those that lived with us for periods of time.
I'd move closer to the Beach. maybe Manhattan or Redondo. Of course Torrance is nice. Same problem in both places I've noticed though, no freakin' residental parking.
I love the beach.

I'd prefer to live in Laguna Beach, CA. SKimboarding capital of the world and great weather. Drawback is I know no one in california and the cost of living is prohibitive.
2nd dream location would be near the Solamar Resort in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Similar waves to Laguna but low cost of living. Drawback: Mexico. And I know even fewer people there.
3rd (and most realistic) location: Melbourne, Fl. Its about 20 minutes north of where I live now. Its about twice the size of my town, but still has that "small town atmosphere." Plus the beaches are better for board sports than here. I will most likely end up here after I get my masters and settle down to live the rest of my life.

Dude,
Los Angeles is amazing. Its one hour to the desert, one hour to the mountains and snow, one hour to the beach. Its 3 hours to mexico, 4 hours to vegas, and 4 hours to the colorado river.
We have pro sports, college sports, opera, more clubs, jazz houses, and some of the most amazing plays i have ever seen. I've bumped into Jim Carrey, Kobe Bryant, Jason Kidd, Britney Spears, and Mike Socia (coacch of the Angels) all in the last 3 years with out even trying. I think Los Angeles is one of the most awe inspiring cities there is for its blend of cultures, industries, and climates and seriously, if you can live in LA for a few months i would highly recomend it.
That being said, i am ready to get the flock out. I have been here many years and its time to move on to the simple life. I love LA but i am gonna look to head towards the oregon coast, or on to canada and alaska. I hope you all find what you are looking for and that when you get there you have a computer to give us a news flash on how great it is. :thumb:

There are different parts of L.A. or OC that I'd consider. I even like the central coast. If I had to choose a place right now I'd probably pick Hawaii because I've been missing it so much lately. Probably Big Island or Maui.

You got that right. I probably have to mow once or twice a year, the rest of the time the kids take care of it. Besides, most of that is pasture, we only mow 2.5 acres.

Well, when you own a townhouse, and about 90% of the properties going up in your county are zero-lot lines, 2.5 acres seems like the Serengeti Plains. :)
