To go along with the "If you could live anywhere" thread, check out this site to tell you where you should live: findyourspot (http://www.findyourspot.com)
It's got several pages of questions about all sorts of topics, like weather, environment, political scene, city size, etc. and gives you a list of cities where you should live, along with descriptions. It only takes about 10 minutes to complete, and I found it pretty entertaining. You can go back and change your answers to see how it changes the results, too.
I'm actually in the process of moving to the city it recomended for me as #1: Portland, OR. (but to be fair, I was planning to move before I found the site)
Doh.

Ummm....Little Rock #1???? I'm Southern, but I'm not that southern.
#2 Providence, RI
#3 Hartford, CT
#4 New Orleans, LA
#5 Baton Rouge, LA
And then there's a bunch more Lousiana cities. Was there some kind of question that asked if I was Cajun, and I accidentally clicked "yesIshonuffam"?

little rock actually fell just outside of my top 10 (#11).
i can't figure out what i generated the results i did. as nice of cities as they may be, i have little interest in moving to places like providence, hartford, or new haven. and none of the major urban centers where i'd like to live (nyc, dc, chicago, la) showed up. i don't get it.
but i think that place must be funded by the little rock chamber of commerce.
1) Greenville, North Carolina
2) Rocky Mount-Stony Creek, North Carolina
3) New Brunswick, New Jersey
4) Hampton, Virginia
5) Lancaster, Pennsylvania
6) Roanoke, Virginia

Apparently, that site and I differ greatly on our definition of "big cities".

I wouldn't be surprised to find that it is influenced by some kind of dollars from tourism boards.

I 100% agree. Just for fun I typed in Detriot MI, and while I'm sure there are nice parts of that city, that website paints an overly positive picture.

I think there were no Florida cities on my list just because I said I didn't like the beach. Well when you grow up with beach, you want to see snow. If I grew up in Wisconsin, I'd probably desperately want to live on the coast. Sorry, but sea lice and sand in my crack doesn't interest me.

Oh quit your belly aching. Sea lice are only a problem certain times of the year and if you are careful they dont bug you. As for the other issue, pull up your pants. :hihi:

And hey, I hear people whine about snow all the time. I can whine about my beaches. :)

I grew up near the beach... but personally, I NEVER wanted to see snow...
However for "job related" reasons, I was FORCED to go somewhere where it does snow... and personally... I HATE IT with a passion.
Honestly, other then it "looks pretty when it is falling"... I can't say anything GOOD about fuggin' snow... :thumbdown :2far:

Crazy. My #2 is about 20 miles from our favorite vacation spot. About 1/4th of the suggested places were within 100 miles of where I live. Makes sense, because I'm right where I want to be!
