So I'm curious, why is it so hard for guys to admit they're wrong?

It's not hard to admit it. It's just hard to ever BE wrong. See, of the 1.7 billion issues that have come up in my time with my lovely bride-to-be, I think I've been wrong about 4 times. Thus, it's hard to have a standard admission of wrong, when you've had so little practice.

I've never been wrong. I thought I was wrong once... but I was mistaken.
Usually because we're not.

What women don't understand is that most guys usually don't say anything unless that are reasonably certain they are correct. The social peer pressure from being wrong teaches us from a young age that it is better to be silent than wrong. Thus most guys only say things they are sure of. Since they are sure of what they said, they are more able to defend it. Women, on the other hand, are less afraid to say things that sound dumb (read: Jessica Simpson.)

Pride plus a dose of stupidity.
My closest friends don't take themselves too seriously, so they aren't afraid to admit when they are wrong.

women, in my experience, are just as willing to insist that they're right as men are. i think most people, except those who tend to have a low self-esteem and jump to the "oh, i'm so stupid and wrong" conclusion don't like to say that they were wrong. and quite frankly, they probably don't think that they are.

It depends.... it's not hard to admit when you are wrong when the "wrong" is based on FACT... However if the wrong is based on "OPINION" then yeah... it's gonna be hard for anyone to admit that.
Besides... why must girls always think that they are right? Especially when their statements are clouded by "emotion" versus "logic"... :hmm:

I'm always wrong about things I don't think through carefully. Impulse actions are the worst. Mostly it's the testosterone. :P

That's what my guess is. I'm pretty good about please and thank you, and even the occasional sorry. Plus, I hold doors for people.
So, as you can see, I'm not wrong on this issue. Which isn't surprising, since I'm never wrong. :)

Thanks mainly to my job I get to see that I am wrong about something every day.
And guys are usually pretty good at making adjustments. So if we start out "wrong" we can typically fix it along the way and things turn out fine in the end. And if they are fine in the end were we really that wrong?

Cause if I admit I'm wrong, I can get sued.
And along the same line, I find less men will say, please, thank you, sorry -- even to their own kids. Can you explain that one??
Because I'm usually not pleased, thankful, or sorry which makes it hard, and I don't have kids, which makes it impossible.

See, but even when it's FACT and there's no room left for arguing, guys manage to go around what they said and claim they did/did not say something just to get out of saying they're wrong...in my experience, at least. :disa:

When I did my concrete job, I shared the backhoe with my neighbor across the street.
Even though they have lived there for over 6 years, I really got to know them during the 2 month(GASP!) ordeal.
Well, the 35 year old wife is a real control freak. She is a perfectionist and never admits that she is wrong. She is constantly belittling her husband. He is always sick and I am beginning to see why. She really gets on my nerves. After a few minutes of talking with her, the anger just starts to boil up inside of me.
I think that control issues and never admitting you're wrong go hand in hand.

Ok, let's just get this straight: You only think you've been wrong only 4 times, if I was to ask your bride-to-be she'd have a different number in mind ;)
I dunno, I'm always wrong. Just ask Slaus

Fortunately, it's nothing serious this time - that's the funny part. If it was an issue that made any sort of difference in our lives I can understand trying to prove your point, but when we're arguing about a song and you've been proven wrong, it's time to throw in the towel dude.

Yeah, she might say it's only 3. She doesn't know about that one time. :)
Seriously, after being proven right, as I usually am, she'll say, "I hate that you're always right." But hey, she keeps trying, even though I remind her that I wouldn't tell her things if I knew I was wrong. Like Canta said, I think we're raised to think that being silent is better than being wrong.

Well you can't generalize Burz's faults to the rest of mankind... not everyone is like that. ;)

exactly. i mean, every now and then, i'm wrong about something factual, and i'm more than happy to admit it. but as i try to tell my GF, if i'm not sure about something, i'll say "i think...." or "....., but i'm not sure". if i make a simple declarative statement about something, and say "trust me, i know", it's because i'm 100% sure that i'm right. of course, i'm not right on all those, but usually, i am (yet i'm nice and i don't rub it in, even though i could).

Lolita, I think (nay, I KNOW) you've got a "Burzhui" issue not a "man" issue. Not to say Burzhui is not a man ... but since I know him well enough, I can tell you that he is never aware that he is wrong; his ego can not accept the defeat ... :)
