I am currantly 2 1/2 months pregnant, and have a 15 month old to run after. I am so sick I can't hardly function. I need advice that might help to alleviate the nausea. I have tried eating crackers and other bland items every hour and that makes me sicker. The only thing I can keep down is milk shakes, not very healthy. If anyone has something to offer please do so. Thank you all so much.

This may sound really bad, but...
Try and stick it out for 2 or 3 more weeks. Even if you just are eating milkshakes (be sure you are taking the prenatal vitamins as well... lol). Hopefully by then, the nausea will be gone. If it isn't, and you can't find anything to work, talk to your doctor. There is medicine you can take that *I believe* shouldn't harm the baby at all. It helps stop, or lessen, the morning sickness if it is severe.
Also, just be sure you are drinking enough water. Throwing up that much will dehydrate you faster than you can blink.
Oh, and CONGRATULATIONS! :)

yeah. congrats!!! if you're anything like my wife, it will be over soon and you'll be telling stories later like, "morning sickness? oh, it's not that bad and it's over SOOO quickly" while your hubby sits there and rolls his eyes.
actually my wife never really got sick. just a little bit nauseaus (sp?) so i don't really roll my eyes.
Condoms?
Swallowing?
Spitting?
Not having sex?
All those sound like good ways to avoid, even if only partially as the case may be with condoms and other birth detterents, the consequences of of having sex.

go see your doctor there are some great drugs for that. Phenergan and Zofran come to mind. Also B vitamins are supposed to work while also taking UNISOM.
Also I hear that it helps to try accupuncture.

ahhhh the joys of pregnancy..
there is no way you're going to totally avoid a "little morning sickness" unless you default and get the sleepy syndrome like some moms get...it does pass thankfully-but until then, keep away from acidic foods like oranges/pasta sauce/CHILI DOGS AND pickles (which have too much salt AND vinegar)...eat light-eggs, toast, fat free milk, unsalted pretzels, and even watermelon sometimes helps..If you're on prenatal vitamens-talk to the doc about switching to possibly children's chewables until the morning sickness passes...those things are killers on the stomach....especially if they are "with iron"..and don't plan your meals for really early in the morning..and might i suggest OYSTER CRACKERS before getting out of bed..thats right-BEFORE getting out of bed in the morning. Eat a handful to at least get something in your stomach to start sucking up that stomach acid that causes the nauseating feeling..you'll be ok. Good luck. :)
~OH! and btw, milkshakes ARENT BAD if you are making them yourself, toss some fruit into that blender btw, and how about some yogurt (which by itself -plain vanilla yogurt will help with the morning sickness)...Eat what makes you "un-sick" and happy. Pretty soon you'll be back to your old eating habits plus some!~

My wife has been pregnant a few times, and has morning sickness all day long for several months. She says ginger helps. Something with lots of ginger, not ginger snaps, but sometime with a higher concentration, like ginger tea.

because she isn't that bad off. she said she can keep down milkshakes.
the best advice would be not to ask the got/apex crowd to help her, but her own doctor.

ReliefBand (http://www.reliefband.com/main.html)
My wife has severe motion sickness and was very skeptical about this device, but I did a TON of research before we purchased one (they are in the $75-$100 range) and the darn thing REALLY works. She can now tolerate car trips and even amusement park rides that almost always ended up with a trip to the garbage can.
It's not only for motion sickness, it can be used for ANY kind of nausea. I popped it on post-surgery because the anaesthesia sometime makes me nauseated and the urge to throw up went away.
You can get them over the counter or you can get a stronger version by prescription.
It's drug-free and safe. And it works.

Well, on the bright side it'll probably resolve within the next month or so, so if you can hold out till then, that's the best thing. If not...Things to do:
1) eat many small meals of bland stuff throughout the day, or just skip meals altogether and become a grazer.
2) If you're throwing up, make sure you drink some gatorade (mix it into the milkshakes if you have to or something). Anything to keep your electrolytes normal.
3) Talk to your doctor. He/she will most likely give you compazine, phenergan, tigan, reglan, droperidol or zofran. These have all been shown to be safe in pregnant women (although droperidol and zofran are more used only when the others fail). If you vomit when taking these, tell the doctor to give it to you as a shot or something till you can hold down food.
Good luck, and remember, the morning sickness will most likely be gone within a month but the kid will be with you forever. Congrats. :)

99% of Doctors will only give you compazine etc if you are so sick that your electrolytes are off and you need to be hospitalized. Trust me-this I know, after working in Neonatal/Maternal Child Nursing for 3 billion years-I know that Docs like to hold off until LAST RESORT on any kind of meds like this.

Doctors are using Phenergan a lot more now for morning sickness when compazine doesn't work. The other meds though are mainly used only when there are serious problems. The main issue though is how much trouble she has keeping down stuff. Most doctors I know would try some of the other stuff before they let her start losing weight. LOSING WEIGHT WHILE YOU'RE PREGNANT IS A VERY BAD THING. The gatorade thing is mainly to help prevent her electrolytes from going too bad. I mean... when you throw up a lot, you basically lose hydrogen, chloride, and potassium. Hopefully it won't get to the point where she would need to be admitted to for IV fluids.

Well I lost 40 pounds with my first baby and I have currently lost 35 pounds with this one. Great Diet plan.

Wait... you're losing weight while you're pregnant!!? Tell your doctor or his/her nurse and if they don't see you very soon get yourself a better doctor. You should be gaining about 30 lbs while you're pregnant.

hehehe I gained 100 lbs with each of my kids and lost it immediately afterwards-my biggest baby was 9'11...
I bow down to frozen reece cups and sticks of pepperoni and compliment the jars of green olives (plus the juice) for making me so toxic I couldnt wear shoes..

Yeah, they use to tell women that it's fine to gain as much weight as you can during pregnancy but now they're trying to control how much weight you gain to prevent the risk of diabetes and large children. Man... 9'11... that is one big baby. I was a big baby also... My mom still secretly resents me for that. :)

Drink ginger tea and eat saltines with peanut butter. Have your husband bring in the food before you get out of bed. Don't get up right away - stay in bed awake for 15 minutes or so. I know some people who have used motion sickness wristbands with success. Don't cook - have your husband bring home whatever you feel like eating. Cooking always made me feel sick. (Hmmm... so does cleaning, taking out the garbage, mowing the lawn...) Since you have another little one, I suggest getting a babysitter every once in a while (2 times a week?), so that you can rest up!
During my first trimester, I ate poorly. Fruits and fries. I did manage to keep down the prenatal vitamin. My Dr said it was fine - eat whatever I can keep down. The baby will pull whatever it needs from you. If you are really sick, you might need to go in and get an IV to dehydrate yourself. Talk to you doctor if you are concerned about yours or your baby's health.
The above comments are from Mrs. Paymaster.

My first baby-3 weeks LATE and only 6'11. the other two-7'3 and 8'2....

i was about as bad off as you are... pregnant with twins, running after a psychotic 2-1/2 year old. i could keep down very little... it's the worst feeling in the world to be hungry as heck AND feel queasy at the mere thought of food.
losing a couple pounds in your first trimester is not dangerous. (i'm not a doctor, but all my friends are, and they've all had babies recently, so... take it for what it's worth...) take your vitamins, and eat whatever you can keep down. if you get to the point where your calorie intake is dropping below 800 a day, that's when it's time to worry. EAT WHATEVER YOU CAN KEEP DOWN. if that's a box of chocolates, so be it. worry about gestational diabetes later. (if you already have diabetes, ignore that last statement... don't eat the chocolate.)
there are two things that will reduce feelings of nausea for everyone, scientifically proven.... GINGER and LEMON. lemonheads, lemonade, lemon starburst and spree... those all worked for me (for about as long as it was in my mouth, but hey, relief is relief.)
ginger ale generally has no ginger in it... there is one brand, made in hawaii that does... i forget the brand name... i think if you look at the websites of baby magzines (baby talk, etc), you should be able to find the brand name, they pimp that stuff in every "morning sickness" article. what works best is real ginger... buy a whole lump of root, grate it, incorporate it into any food you can think of. it's not something to worry about as an "herbal" danger, so eat it til you're sick of it.
unscientific stuff that works for some, but not others: very cold foods (milkshakes, etc) very hot foods (soup, etc) very hot foods (salsa, etc). whatever you can think of, if it sounds good and you want it, eat it. your baby is the size of a peanut and has very little in the way of caloric and nutritional needs right now, don't worry about not eating your broccoli until this passes.
for my first, morning sickness cleared up like magic at 13 weeks, which is what generally happens... hang in there!!!!
for my 2nd/3rd, it got better at the 13 week mark, but i was still pretty damned queasy until the end of the 2nd trimester, and couldn't eat meat at all again until after i had them (i seem to remember pounding some big macs at the hospital.) 95% of the time, 13 weeks is the magic number though.
oh, and things that will cause nausea for most women: meat, coffee... uh.... okay, it's been a while and i don't remember. but if you can avoid those smells, it might help.
ohhh!!! and i remember one thing that REALLY helped me... hot apple cider with mulling spices. just smelling it in the kitchen helped, i left a pot of it on all day... drinking it was even better. if you can't find prepared mulling spices, use: cinnamon, orange peel, nutmeg, cloves - whole works best, just throw it in a pot of apple juice, but ground works too (it just makes a mess in your cup.)
right now, your main concern is getting enough calories... throw some peanut butter into the milkshake, make it with whole milk... heck, when i was full of twins, i achieved low-end-of-normal weight gain by using butter on everything, and cream instead of milk (and man did it suck to go back to my old ways...) mmmm... fried peanut butter sandwiches with haagen dasz ice cream... seriously. just get the calories in you any way you can, and you'll feel better soon.
good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

whoa, i just read more carefully... LOSING 30-40 lbs? is that a net loss across the entire pregnancy? eesh. okay. if you are overweight to begin with, losing weight in the first trimester is no problem at all. but if that's what you have to look forward to, it is EXTREMELY important that you get on an anti-emetic NOW... nausea is like pain: PREVENTION WORKS WELL, BUT ONCE IT HAS GOTTEN BAD IT IS VERY VERY HARD TO REVERSE. if you can't get into your doctor, use bullying tactics. have your husband call (yep, sexism is alive and well, and he may listen to the deep male voice respectfully, even though he ignored you saying the same damned thing your "hysterical woman" voice...) or find a new doc.

Had a bad time once with my diabetes and couldn't keep anything down (ketoacidosis), I got mine via IV, nice warm and sleepy feeling and the sickness went away almost at once.
Too bad that stuff isn't over the counter, could come in handy when I get the flu!
