View Full Version : How to sell these WEGA 32"
pennypinch

OK, I've finalized the deal on the 32" WEGA TV's. I guess I'm looking for a method of selling them to you folks that are interested...I am looking at a pretty decent discount, but I'm only looking at getting two extras. I'm not really interested in making money, but I'd rather not go through the trouble of shipping this thing...unless someone REALLY wants it badly.
Any suggestions for methods? I'd rather not get into an auction. I'm thinking kind of like a priceline kind of thing, best two offers win?
what?! how did you end up getting two WEGAs?
pennypinch

Aww, baby, I got my sources! Why ask why? I have two to sell.

07-27-2000, 09:41 PM
Ugly, wasn't it you that was looking for one earlier? Where did you find the best price on them? Every where I look only has 27", or sells at MSRP. I simply assume SOMEONE has them at a discount...
Heh heh!
Nope, not me. Doofy was looking for a WEGA. Contact him.

Yeah, these are brand new. Unopened, unreburbished. I am still trying to lock down the exact model, so I'll let you know how much I'll give them to you for. Does anyone know how much it would cost to ship a TV somewhere, or should I just restrict this SoCal Apexers?
Butch, you've figured me out! It's a gamble, I figure if I steal these TV's and make a mint, there's a 50/50 chance I'll get caught. So if I overpay my bail w/ the money, maybe they'll just lose track of it!
Hey, folks, maybe post a range of prices you've seen so I have a better idea just how good this deal is. Maybe I'm getting screwed here...We're looking for all WEGA models between the KV-32 SF12 through to the KV-32 FV16. Sorry, again, still trying to figure out which TV I can buy and which one I can't.

I'm looking for a WEGA, but not a 32" model. Besides, I'm from NYC. Too much of a hassle to get those things shipped.

Were you looking for the 36 or the 27?
Also, could you forward me a list of places you found representative prices at? Thanks!
Sorry I am a little short on details, folks, the person I'm dealing with isn't the most knowledgeable, making it rather tough to nail down this deal. Hopefully, by Monday (at the latest) I'll have this thing properly rolled out.

OK, saw this thread: http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/Forum9/HTML/000431.html
Kame, I know you're somewhat interested...do you know which models you were talking about? If these are the ones I'm thinking of, then yes, I have a very good deal. I just assume these are the KV32 FV16?

What price range are you looking towards Pennypinch?
hey, if you're able to beat $1300 for a 36" and $1150 for the 32", you are getting an excellent deal. maybe an incredible deal, most people arent able to get these without getting on a waiting list for 2 or 3 months and dont even care about the price, so if you can get them in a couple weeks at better prices than those above, you should be receiving an amazing amount of interested buyers. if i didnt have 2 new tv's(one is a wega) i would buy them both!
pennypinch
07-28-2000, 10:06 AM
To answer both, yes, I can definitely beat $1150. Hold onto yer horses, folks, I'm still workin, here.
Bud, it's a ROYAL pain to ship. Believe you me. I went to a local fedex drop location to ask how much shipping that 21" Nokia monitor (to the person who won it in our last contest) was. They wanted $243 UNINSURED for the most economical method for that 81lb package, because of the size. A 32" TV will absolutely kill you if you don't have some sort of corporate account with volume discounts. With UPS not taking packages that size, and USPS not either, and Fedex buying out RPS, you're going to be hard pressed.
Man, wish I had the excess funds to buy one. http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/smile.gif
Ugh, that's tempting. Hmm, what to do with the 36".

I was actually willing to pay $999 (no tax i'm assuming) for the KV32-FV16 but the shipping cost is gunna sour the whole deal. Would anyone believe me if I told you guys that a friend of mine manage to snag an open item 36" wega (no xbr) for 574 bux? Lucky bastard.

I live in southern California. If you SD folks are willing to wait, I'll be visiting someone there in late august and in late Sept, so I'll even deliver! How's that for service with a smile. Want me to tease? I got jiggy beat too...still workin', patience grasshoppers.

pennypinch,
I live in Santa Ana. If the deal is really damn good and you live close enough, I can pick it up.
pennypinch
07-29-2000, 06:29 PM
Santa Ana...where is that? I live in Downtown LA, I know Santa Ana is around LA somewhere...
What I think I'll do is probably just publish a price I'll sell at, figure out how many people are interested. I'll investigate how realistic it is to ship this mother somewhere (Apex makes it sound like it's not really reasonable, but then again, if it's this baby's selling for MSRP in some parts of the country, I think it'd still be cheaper.) Whatever. If there are more interested buyers than TV's, I'll come up with some humdinger of a contest. Anyone have a better idea?
pennypinch
07-30-2000, 07:48 PM
OK, almost there...
need a little more information. At what price is a KV-32FS12 a good deal. What is the difference between this and the KV-32FV16? I can see on the sony website, but frankly, I'm not a videophile. Can anyone explain it to me in plain english? I look forward to your guys' response.

07-30-2000, 10:50 PM
I'm not exactly sure but the KV32-FV12 usually sells for about 300-500 more than KV32-FV16. And also, the KV32-FV16 has PIP and i think the FS12 doesn't.
MaStAYoDA1
07-30-2000, 11:54 PM
I live in San Diego, whenever u do decide to sell those wega's, email me @
[email protected]
The KV-32FV16 has side speakers (and better ones), a monitor output, 2 tuner PIP, and extra S-video imput in front, and is a whopping 176lbs (as compared to the KV-32FS12's mere 165lbs...hehe).
Then there's the mothership, the KV-32XBR400. That one is 1080i, 720p, 420i, and 420p compliant, and has their top of the line FD based WEGA XBR tube. Of course, this one is a tad pricier.
Oops, and to finish answering:
A reasonably good price (though not the best):
Crazy Eddie's:
http://crazyeddie.store.com/cat3/main.html
KV-32FS12 - $899.95
KV-32FV16 - $1099.95

Okay, I'm not as much as a TV junkie as all you guys. What's the big deal about WEGA TVs?
spigidygak
07-31-2000, 09:00 AM
True flat screen, higher resolution and mucho better picture overall. Almost like having a trinitron computer monitor. Only weakness is geometry on screen can be crappy on some models (text is hard to read on some). Other than that. . . its a pretty damn good set for not being plasma.
OK, jabroni, $50 and not a dime more. You are pushing your luck trying to sell those for more than 1/2 a franklin
hehe, don't worry, I won a free 20" from altavista 500,000 point promotion

Actually, so do I. It just kind of fell off my radar screen, I've been mad busy at work. Um, I will see what is up with my dude. Last I heard, it took about 4 weeks to get it, but it was definitely below what y'all were looking for.
N.B.: They are not the XBR's.
pennypinch
08-23-2000, 03:53 PM
OK! Here we go. Just got off the horn with my contact. He is taking a small "risk premium" as he likes to call it, because he's not supposed to sell to people outside the company. But here is the deal. First, I called around, the Good Guys had the best deals:
XBR400: $1,999, $2,163.91 after tax
FV16: $1,299, $1,406.16 after tax
FS12: $999, $1,081.41 after tax
I can get these signed, sealed, and, ok, not delivered at these prices. Remember, these are all after tax.
XBR400: $1590
FV16: $1025
FS12: $845
I feel like Cal Worthington, here, but...
YOU SAVE!:
XBR400: $ 573.92
FV16: $ 381.17
FS12: $ 236.42
It's not a bad deal, if I do say so myself.
Here's the rub: I can only get two, plus my own. I live in Southern Cal, so if you're interested in getting one...hmm, e-mail me at:
[email protected]
to reiterate, these are brand new, unopened, unrefurbished. Before any of you smart-mouthed whipper-snappers pipe up, these are NOT HOT!:P This is an above board transaction, and I'm not EVEN going to ask if you think it's "ethical" like taking cable from a cable modem http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/wink.gif
Alright, post any questions here.
[This message has been edited by pennypinch (edited 08-23-2000).]
these are last years models right? so what is the difference between the two cheaper models? does one add picture in picture? i havent been able to find any stats on those models
pennypinch
08-23-2000, 04:04 PM
No, as far as I know, these are both this years...er, check that, I KNOW the XBR is this year's. that's HDTV ready.
The FV16 has 2 PIP and better, side firing speakers. the FS has no PIP and has bottom-of-screen mounted speakers. There is no difference with picture quality between the two cheapies. The XBR of course looks much better.

It's about time you found a price for these, hehe. Those are such tempting prices, but I don't have the cash for that right now. . .
I would be in and on this group buying...deal...but i am in boston and there isnt any way to get them here...too bad.......
I would of gotten the XBR400...
thx anyway pinch..
PS maybe ya can open up here on the East coast!

Yikes! that's ridiculous...although I'll tell you what's ridiculous. Unless you absolutely have to have to have a PIP and "better" speakers, dropping that much on the FV16 for the same bloody picture doesn't make any sense to me. I'd say, either go with the XBR or the FS, I plan to go with the XBR, but I just can't justify the premium of the FV.
Leon or Apex, do the added features of the FV justify the price? Obviously, a personal choice, but what added capabilities does it offer? Just if you have tons of inputs?
spigidygak
08-24-2000, 11:36 AM
I dunno about you guys, but PIP is a just a gimic. I never use that thing on my tv.
pennypinch
08-24-2000, 11:58 AM
BTW, Leon dug up some interesting info on the XBR. I said above it's HDTV ready; partially true (if I understand correctly). It will handle SOME of the HD signal, but it will not be true HDTV. Here's Leon's message:
I just checked Sony's spec sheet. http://www.sel.sony.com/SEL/consumer/ss5/home/television/fdtrinitronrtmwegat
mxbrrtmtelevision/kv-32xbr400_specs.shtml
The WEGA is HDTV compatible, but not true HDTV.
1080i = 1080 lines of resolution INTERLACED, so it's effectively 540 lines
of resolution
HDTVs are capable of 720p mode which means 720 progressive scan or
non-interlaced. Like a computer screen. VERY clear picture. The Sony only
does 480p. Not to say the Sony is bad, because it isn't. It's just not an
HDTV. Hope that clears things up. =)
So, caveat emptor, don't think you're getting a real HDTV, but then again, you're still getting a damn fine lookin' idiot box.
If you want one, e-mail

KV-32FS12 MSRP = $1199.00
KV-36FS12 MSRP = $1699.99
KV-32XBR400 MSRP = $2199.99
I'd say to go with Penny on this one. http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/wink.gif

I was comparing those two models....
The FV16 has enhanced 16:9 mode and the FS12 doesn't. So the FV16 will be better for widescreen DVDs, I'm guessing.
THe FV16 has 15Watt X 2 speakers and the FS12 has 5Watt X 2 speakers. Speakers aren't a big thing if you're going with a HT system anyway.
And as was previously stated, the FV16 has Picture in Picture.

No, that's a great question, Kame. I was actually just calling about it now. I mean, you could always pull the old "buy a new one at Best Buy, swap boxes" routine, but I'm sure Sony will cover it. It is after all a Sony warrenty, not a Best Buy or Good Guys warrenty. Checking into it now...
Umm...I wish I lived on the west coast...I am just drooling for that TV......
So ....I might og missed it...but does the better speakers warrant the price????
Anyway....penny...Is there a warrentee?
What if I buy it, and the TV tube just goes out...Not to be discouraging anyone...or ruining ya deal...but what if there a problem....Goto best buy and tell them I lost the recite?

08-25-2000, 02:08 PM
You know, while I'm waiting to find out, what does Good Guys/Circuit City have to lose by exchanging something that wasn't sold at their store? They just send it back to Sony anyway, probably at Sony's expense for warrenty work. I don't get it. Hell, even if its stolen, why should they care?

If you wanna drive 3 hours to NYC, there's a place called G&R Electronics selling their 32" XBR400's for $1600 cash. You charge you pay tax. I doubt they're *hot* cause that's store's been around as long as I can remember. I've been living in Flushing for around 10yrs now.
I'm just holding back until they receive the 36" XBR's.

OK, here's the latest: Sony will cover the warrenty for it's duration, no problem. Just call the CS number in the manual.
I am going to buy myself a 32" XBR, and a 36" XBR (both for myself). I will purchase these on Friday. ANyone interested should e-mail me at
[email protected] Depending on the number of orders, we can figure out if I have enough. So figure out the money situation, see what fat can be trimmed from your daily lives, I know I'll be cutting down SIGNIFICANTLY, but hey, it's the price of (video) glory. Peace out.

Hehe, that store is probably legit, except for one thing. They like cash 'cause they don't claim it in there tax forms. That's why they do it. For once the buyer and seller get a good deal, all at the cost of going against sales tax regulations. . .

Driving down and picking up the TV would be great.....Where is the place located in flushing?...I guess I can open the yellow page and look and all..... I guess I just let them know doofy sent me....."I heard ya hook it up without tax" ....
But then the 36 inch does sound good too.... When is that coming out or is it already out?

I went there again yesterday. And wouldn't you know it, the 36" XBR just came in. I bought one right away. He wouldn't tell me how many he had.
So if there are any East Coast members who want this TV, you better go now.
G & R Electronics & Appliances
37-07 Main street, Flushing, NY 11354

They do not give out prices on the phone. If you insist, they will but it'll be jacked up to regular store prices. But once you get there, the prices are totally different.
Anyways, I paid $2000 for the 36" plus tax. Cause I ended up charging it. I get $50 back from SONY cause I use my NEW SONY card to purchase it. I live in Flushing, so he gave me free delivery.
