Welcome to Y.A.W.A.O.P.(*) But don't worry, it starts getting better about 10 years after the last birth. ;)

Umm... which method of "travel" are we talkin' about...

DFJ flew for the first time at around 4 months old... we (Me and him alone... Momma didn't come) drove down to Florida for the first time at Christmas 2003 to visit my folks and we got down there just fine...

Personally, i think it depends on the baby. When my brother was younger (he is 10 years younger than I) he would cry whenever he was in a car....family trips from Los Angeles to Palm Springs were fun

A little red wine will do wonders to quiet down a baby on the plane. Use the same trick you would if they were teething, soaking a clean cloth in it so that they suck on it and yet be controlled so its not dangerous.

Depending on the car your drive, the baby might fit in the glove box...

I hear you.

This is what how my baby responds when I tell him that we will be travelling:

I'm guessing it was his mother that taught him that gesture...

i also would like to know if you're talking about flying or driving. infants can do either well. 4-14 month old kids are a pain in the car or plane b'cuz they can't entertain themselves. my 2yo is fun to travel with. he loves to fly and we have a dvd player in the van so he's quite while we drive.

don't worry apex, it WILL get better!

red wine trick (or scotch, etc etc etc), works well. just qtipping and dabbing it on the lips is supposed to be enough.

Even if the baby is sleeping, it's no picnic. You've got to carry a ridicuous amount of stuff with you, and deal with all the baby's needs. Breastfeeding in coach is awkward to say the least. Southwest airlines does not have changing tables anywhere in the plane, so you gotta change the bugger right there on your lap.

Zachary's diaper leaked at one point, so my wife then had a mess all over her pants. Shortly after that, he barfed on me. We brought an extra change of clothes for him in our carry on, now we need to bring extra clothes for us too.

It just ain't fun.

Plane trip. Car is bad too, but at least there's no one else there to annoy.

If you would beat him evenly on both sides, as opposed to just the right side, you would be much better off. . .

did you already travel or are you just worried about it? i've flown 2-3 times with austin. from 3 months old to 2yo. it wasn't ever terrible. try to get a seat near the engine. the noise will cover crying and will likely soothe him. also, if the ear pressure gets bad, hook him up to a breast. that worked for the screaming 1yo i sat next to 2 days ago. i about told the hot mom that my ears were hurting also.

I don't care how many times you say it, I don't think I can imagine Apex breast feeding a baby.

As long as you aren't trying to imagine his wife in such a situation, I think that we will be OK. (If you are, then we will all be banned...)

The easiest way to travel by air with a small baby is to have a bottle ready for the baby to suck on to equalize the pressure in their ears so that they don't have pain in their ears from the takeoff and landing...

We used this trick with DFJ when he was little and it pretty much kept him calm in light of the pressurization of the plane... :thumb:

yeah. when they get older, you can switch to geeky father with fanny pack, camcorder around the next, and camera bag attached to belt. fun. hahaha.
