THE WORLDWIDE DOOM 3 INVASION BEGINS THE WEEK OF AUGUST 2
Mesquite, TX – July 14, 2004 – See you in Hell! id Software™ and Activision, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI) confirmed today that id Software’s highly anticipated DOOM 3™ for the PC has entered manufacturing and will begin shipping to retail stores worldwide the week of August 2. A sci-fi horror masterpiece, DOOM 3’s dramatic storyline, pulse-pounding action, incredible graphics, and ground-breaking technology combine to draw you into the most frightening and gripping first-person gaming experience ever created.
“DOOM 3 is done! And you’re going to have it in your hands in a matter of days,” said Todd Hollenshead, CEO, id Software. “DOOM 3 is a videogame experience unlike any before it. From the cinema quality visuals and the incredible 5.1 sound, to the terrifying atmosphere and hyper-realistic environments, the whole game screams ‘interactive horror film!’ Add in the most ferocious line up of demons Hell has ever brought to bear, and you have an experience so intense that you’ll need to keep your heart medicine handy.”
Built on id’s revolutionary new 3D technology, DOOM 3 is a terrifying battle with the forces of Hell. In DOOM 3, your recent assignment to the Union Aerospace Corporation’s Mars research facility seemed simple enough, until their discoveries and experiments unlocked the gates to Hell itself. Now, in an epic clash against pure evil you must fight to understand who is with you, who is against you, and what must be done to stop this nightmare from reaching Earth. For more information, fans can visit WWW.DOOM3.COM. DOOM 3 has been rated “M” for Mature by the ESRB."

OH BABY! I'm psyched..Just a few short days..Anyways...a 9700...hmmm you might be ok..But like my problem with Far Cry, I only have 512mb of RAM..I'd say more ram would be the best option..A 9700 np is close to a Pro..I'm no video card expert so I'm not positive..But i'd say Doom will be memory hungry..

Doom will run better on Nvidia because its opengl. Half life 2 will run better on ATi so Newell said. If you are buyign a mid range video card, get an ati 9800pro, if you are going high end get an nvidia 6800gt because they are fast as hell and overclock to the moon. Also, a gig of ram will be necesary to avoid hard drive swapping in all of these games, so its almost a must.

...and finally a game that probably will not run on my Pentium M 1.4GHz laptop with Mobility Radeon 9600 graphics.
Oh well, I'll be overhauling my desktop soon enough.

For those of you with low end video cards (GF3s), you don't have to worry too much. Though you may not be able to run the game at High video settings, the game is probably the best looking 640x480 game you will ever see.
It is still one hell of a gaming experience even at Low settings. So you don't need to fret too much about having to upgrade your video card right away, you can always re-visit the game at a later time when you have upgraded.

p.s. I cannot deny nor confirm that I've worked on the game.

Saw the announcement on Gamespot this morning and had to pre-order. I see some PTO coming in my near future.

Oh baby... can't wait!
Hopefully my 9500Pro has the cohones to run this at 1280x1024.... I think I'll probably have to drop to 1024x768, tho.
Just upgraded from 512 to 1GB of RAM, so that'll certainly help.
What are the published minimum & recommended specs? Is there going to be a demo available?

I have a 1.4GHz Centrino with 128mb 9600... I've seen Far Cry and UT2004 being run SIMULTANEOUSLY  the guy added a gig of ram to his 256

Ha....my desktop is 3x slower than the minimum requirements for the low end! This is what I get for resting on my laurels and continually putting other things in front of upgrading my computer.
I knew it was time to upgrade and have been deciding what to do for a while. Now I have even more reason to get my act in gear.

I just thought I would burst a few bubbles. This game will not run at all on anything lower than a geforce 3... and will not run on any geforce 4 mx series Furthermore it will run like CRAP on anything lower than the top-o-the-line geforce 4.
This game oozes shading inefficiency.

Todd Hollenshead, id's chief executive, said Doom 3 will require:
• A 1.5-gigahertz Intel Pentium 4 chip or AMD Athlon 1500.
• 384 megabytes of memory.
• Two gigabytes of hard drive space.
• An nVidia GeForce 3 graphics card or better; or an ATI Technologies 8500 or better.

That's kind of odd. The version I read from Gamespot (requirements) made it sound a tad stiffer:

also new Doom website is up with a new trailer:
