Structure Foam Mattress Pad STINKS!!!

I just got the queen sized Structure Six Zone Visco Memory Foam Mattress Pad today, queen size maximum support (thickest) type, and it has a very strong and foul odor :eek3: I mean really bad! It is made of 100% Urathane.

If it just needs to air out, that is OK. I put it on the bed (for like five minutes), and it is extremly comfortable, but the whole room began to smell, so it is now airing out in the living room - windows open, ceiling fan on.

It could be mildew, which would be very bad. Has anyone else gotton one of these recently?

I got the cheaper version about 5 months ago...yeah it does stick up a storm...

But it goes away after a while...I didn't even air it out...and it went away in about 5-7 days. So I think if you air it out, it'll be gone in 1-2 days tops.

Update - I aired out the mattress pad for two days, and the odor is almost gone. The pad is now on the bed.

It is very comfortable, and less than half the price of the mattress pad made by Carpenter sold at Bed Bath and Beyond.

Your instructions didn't say to air it out first? ;)

When I got mine-that was the first thing we did-because we detected the plasticy smell right out of the bag. Great product tho.

Last night as I was getting rid of the packaging that the pad came in I found a 3x5 " card that said to air out for "several hours" to get rid of the "freshness smell."

2 reasons why you do need to air it out for several hours:

1) stinkeh start. gotta let that almost-noxious smell out, and
2) to fluff up the pad to its correct dimensions. looking at the bag and box that it came in, they probably vacuumed the air out of it before packing it to make it fit in such a smallish box.
