Arcade Top Scrolling Fighter Pilot type game

Recently i have been wanting to play one of those cheesy arcade games where you are a plane and get weapon upgrades etc. Top down scrolling game. But i can't seem to remember any of them or find any good ones online. I would love to find a good flash version of one but if i had to i could just get an emulator.

Anyone know of anything?

Get a Genesis Emulator and get Raiden. I think tha's what it's called. Man I loved that game.

Raiden rocked... I have raiden and raiden 2 for my PSX. and also on xbox emulations. its very much fun.. THe homing laser that finds enemies and the big blue vaporizer laser... ohhh the joy.

You could also try 1942 (or any of it's varients). It's readily available on emulated platforms, including MAME.

wooo, raiden was pretty much exactly what i was looking for. Well now i have doom 3 so this might wait till i am bored at work, but we'll see.

I liked Gradious or even Lifeforce on the NES I think it was.

Raiden's classic old-school. I remember playing that at the roller rink in elementary school some... 13 years ago or so. Another good series is Aero Fighters (on the Neo Geo arcades). I'm sure you could probably find emulators somewhere.
