Hey, when i start my car, cold start, it makes this intense squealing noise for about 15 seconds then it dissapears. It seems like its comming from one of the belts, that area of the car. Any idea what theproblem is? DO you think it'd be the belt itself or maybe something like the water pump? Any ideas???

Conventional wisdom always says its the fan belt, but usually, it sqeals under accelleration too. Anyone got better intel?

It's your girlfriend in the back seat? Just kidding..... uhm try some belt dressing(spray-on). you can pick it up at any wal mart in the auto section. However, this is only curing the sympton and not the possibility of replacing the belt.

belt dressing just greases it up so it doesnt have enough friction to squeel anymore, you'll end up spraying it on every couple of days though just change the belt, and make sure all your pulleys are ok.

Actually, belt dressing increases friction so it doesnt squeal anymore it also conditions the belt. Or else...why would'nt everyone just spray some WD40 penetrating oil on the belt?...nough said.

Well, already bought the belts so i'm prolly not gonna use belt dressing. I took the pw steering belt off, the painfully loud squeeling noise is gone, it seems like its gone. In its place is another noise, much quieter but still noticeable. I'll have it all done by tomm.

Yay, all done and it quieter, still a little noisy, but its the natural sound of the engine.

Yea i'm still kinda amazed at the result, not i only hear this rapidly clicking sound, i'm thinking its the spark pulgs or something. I'm a happy camper!
