A-ight, coming out of the local Wal-Mart, picking up some FaBreeze and a body wash poof, when what do my wondering eyes behold? Ooh! A P-phat black accord. How do I know it's an accord? Because it has "ACCORD" written in 3-foot letters across the entire side of the car! Well, I'm thinkin' "Damn, mamma jamma, that's one pimped out ride, that thing must be fast!" Then I see it: the symbol of all that is fast and holy...the sacred VTEC sticker on the front fender. Now, I know what you're thinking, "I didn't know Accords came with VTEC engines!" Well, I guess this guy had done some heavy under-the-hood work, because if it says VTEC, it must be VTEC!!
So by this time, I've dropped my purchases in amazement, when he decides to kick it up a notch: strobes. I am dumbfounded, without words to describe my nausea. Flashing out through his clear turn covers, bling-blingin' off his reeems, this guy has apparently installed the wing lights off an Airbus A320...that's what it looks like anyway. I dunno, maybe RokSport does this type of installation routinely (I got the "tuner"'s name off the top of his winshield. Well, top half, anyway. It was a pretty big sticker.)
Now, you take a look at this badass whip, custom grille and slammed (of course), where, you wonder, where can this big pimp be found?
CHILLIN' IN THE PARKING LOT OF THE WAL-MART!!! You can't make this stuff up sometimes...

have you all seen this page?
http://www.riceboypage.com/

It is some of the funniest **** I've ever read on the internet. This guy Brian basically photographs these "rice rockets" and makes fun of them. The best part is the "Reader Repsonses" section where the owners of the cars find their pictures on the site and start going nuts. It's an all-time classic. You'll love it.

Yup, that's one of my favorites, and I've posted it a couple of times. It really is amazing what some people will do to their cars. And you know these "mods" are costing a grip of cheese. I simply cannot fathom a bigger waste of money than making my car a rolling joke.

You know, I have a feeling Acura actually went and f'ed up integras in the factory and called them type-R's. Last time I was home, I saw two seperate yellow "type-R's" that had the black wheels and low-profile rubber, but they were definitely two different cars that were identical. So I think Acura may have rice rocketed their own model to get in on the "aftermarket look". Still, those have nothing on the moron I mentioned in the first post. He was just sittin' in the car, thinkin he was lookin' like the sh!t. I had to turn my head so he wouldn't see me laughing.

What fun would it be if you bought a fast car off the lot and didn't do something to make it faster? Most people customize their rides to set them apart from off the lot autos. Some people just go a bit overboard. One man's junk is another man's treasure, right? I for one had a lot of fun smokin stangs, porsches and vipers in my old ultra modified 1987 rx7, just imagine the look on their faces. Now I have fun smokin those guys in my SUV.

While your post is almost intelligible, the question still remains why one would soup up a piece of crap (like an SVX for example) instead of buying a fast car in the first place? As far as individuality goes, I could slash up my face and put my arms where my legs are and my legs where my arms are; that's pretty individual, but I'd be hard pressed to get play from women. Frankly, I have no idea where that went, but you get the idea...

The probles that most of those "modified" cars look all the same. If I see one that is original it looks like sheit, like those above. And boy have I seen a bunch of these cars, I live in the L.A. area and spend a lot of time down in San Diego (even worse). For guys like happo and I go up to Napa Valley, it's bimmer heaven there.

My reply was directed more toward perfomance modifications. Primarily modifications under the hood. Not those fiberglass body pieces that make your car look like something that it is not. I'm sure even bimmer guys would like a couple extra ponies to keep you ahead of the pack. Even though I'm pretty much a bimmer hater I gotta give props to the new M5, that thing hauls major a**.

My post was in response to you suggesting to buy a fast car in the first place. I was just stating that no matter how fast or slow for that matter your car is, its still pretty fun getting the most performance out of it. As far as honda civic dx's go you can definitely make those cars extremely fast (it's just a lot of money) a friend of mine has done numerous 10 second 1/4 mile times in his civic dx (full stock body). With over 500 horsepower to the wheel with plenty of torque to go with it too.

I'm Indian, can that be considered Asian hehe.

Asians don't think bigger is better, Americans do. The whole thing about America is about open spaces and big block cars. Is there an import engine past the 4L size?

If the piping is going to be large, the actual engine should be displacing large volumes of combustion. I have a measly 2.5L v6 and a 3" exit pipe is more than sufficient to allow exhaust to flow freely. If they want performance, they should straighten the exhaust and add some pressure to the intake (like a ram-air so the hamsters are forced to breath).

I wonder if any of these kids ever dyno their cars to see what the changes do. I had my entire cat off along with half my exhaust piping and it only added 3HP at the peak. I got more power by adding a blower and coolant system/heat shield to the air intake.

Oh man, that line "a cheese slicer to assist hamster feedings" and "cold-air instake for hamster" just had me laughing all over the floor! http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/eek.gif http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/biggrin.gif That was classic!

I have no spoiler on my car and have pretty much stuck with my stock dual exhaust on my Contour SVT. I've boosted power by about 23HP to the front wheels and raised my g by about .1!

The biggest laugh I have at anything has to be the size of the exhaust I see. They probably have a 1 1/4 exit and then there's this huge 4 or 6" pipe at the end. I hope they know that the turbulence caused by air at the end of the exhaust will actually impede airflow. I had my friend at Lockheed test this out.

If the car is runing on a 1.6L engine with normal aspiration, what is it doing with a 6" exit!?! http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/eek.gif. Even F1 cars don't pass 3.6" cross-section.

That car is pretty f'in incredible! What do you think a roof scoop is for if the car is front engined? And isn't an Accord front wheel drive? That's quite a bit of downforce at the back! And frankly, I question, even with enhanced brakes, if anyone needs to channel that much air to the front brakes (see front air dam). That car is, I'll say it again, f'in amazing. Amazing that some guy would drop that much cash on a POS that still looks exactly like an accord from the back.

AJ AJ AJ, you know I'm pulling your chain. OK, so I think the SVX is a very very unattractive car, but otherwise, I've always held Subaru's in high esteem. Unfortunately, the resale market doesn't, but what are you going to do?
What'd you say you paid for the thing? 10 grand? Yeah, that's pretty good value for the money. It does look like it's made by Fisher Price, build-wise, but that may be due to all the plastic parts on the car.
So I guess the answer is that I am half-playing, in that I'd never buy a SVX, but I certainly don't begrudge someone who can get their hands on one for under twelve G's.
BTW, my truck has way more HP and is way faster, so don't try and bust numbers on me. Here's a number: 5000 pounds. that how much it weighs. Plus, it's a Mercedes. http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

BTW, my truck has way more HP and is just as quick, so don't try and bust numbers on me. Here's a number: 5000 pounds. That's how much my car weighs. Plus, it's a Mercedes. http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

yeah- i paid $8600 actually...and theres not too much plastic, you keep referring to plastic, and i keep looking around my car but oh well http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/smile.gif. anyway, its a polarizing car. some people LOVE it, some people hate it, but it gets a reaction from everyone. i love that. i was picking my car up from Best buy stereo install yesterday, and i guy walking out saw me by my car, raved about how he loves the car, asked how much i paid for it, and i told him. he offered me $11k on the spot. i declined- i do need a car http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/biggrin.gif. just a lil anecdote. the only reason i thought you werent playing is because you called SVX so randomly crappy- i mean, its not crappy, however ugly it may be. i think its cool to get noticed everywhere i go http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/smile.gif

OK, first off, you should have taken the money on the spot. You have how many miles? 100K+, right? This guy was just asking to be abused, considering you told him exactly how much you paid for the thing. AJ! You should have your membership revoked at this board, considering you just let the deal of the year walk away from you.
Look, if you can get 11K from this guy, I GAURANTEE you I could find you one with fewer miles at $10K, and you'd have a lower mileage SVX with a grand in your pocket. I dunno what going to school in Maryland is like, but I remember a grand would have been acceptable when I was going to school. Jeez louise...

i have 43,000 miles....still have years left to go...thats why it was such a deal @ $8000! http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I see ones with my milage going for $14k or more...granted i could get one with 100k+ miles thats more loaded for around $11k but DAMN its a hassle to find those cars. So thats why i declined...

Honda rules? Rules what? The rice wars?

spigidygak

The only thing they have a chance at ruling is in CART racing. . . too bad CART is for pussies. Formula one is where the big boys play. Michael Schummacher and Ferrari are the racing gods. Don't believe me?

Take for instance, Alex Zanardi. That cocky bastard thought he was the greatest so he went to Formula 1. Hehe, too bad he could barely even finish a race. . . Next season we'll get to see how his x-teammate, Juan Montoya will do in F1. . .

My prognosis for Honda. . .Bunkness. . .

colossus

Zanardi is such a jackass! He's like the Charles Barkley of racing. Without some good wheel contact in every race his life has no meaning. I have not seen one race where he didn't make a move that put 10 other people's lives in danger.

No wonder Moore wanted to see him plow into a wall hehe. Nobody gets under people's skin than Zanardi.

Honda will reign supreme in any place that needs small displacement high power engines like lawnmowers and powertools. Honda engines couldn't keep up with the torque and heat stresses I would place on my car.

Heh, thats why they can't compete in the mother of all races, Le Mans. I'd like to see a Honda GT racer. . . hehe imagine one of those trying to keep up with Porsche, MB, BMW, or AUDI.

This is a pretty good thread with some funny pics. It always amazes what people think looks cool, and just attracts negative attraction to their car i.e. getting constantly harassed by the local law enforcement.

I tend to go stealth with my mods:
replace stock tires, remove ugly VTEC logo, replace intake, and a jackson SC
why get a big/loud exhaust when it doesn't add much gain in overall HP, but attract attention(the picure of that huge exhaust on that Civic hilareous.

Sleeper cars are great, when will Mazda bring back the RX7...

Yea gotta admit stealth is best. If you just blew past a cop into a crowd of unmarked cars, he might not catch you. If you're a rice racer, he'll just look for the stickers.

You guys are all missing the point. Each sticker adds about 2-3 hp. If you have a type R sticker it also increases your handling capability too. Also the big tail enables your rear wheels to obtain traction on that front wheel drive car. The tail also doubles as a picnic table for those weekend outings. It also works as a handle for pushing the car. Geez, you guys don't know anything about ricer cars.

spigidygak

Ya forgot blxmjx, if ya lie down while driving with one arm stretching for the wheel, that adds about 35 hp and .2 lateral g's.

Stealth is the best. I had this guy in a Civic cut me off yesterday. (Or at least I think it was a civic. I've seen cancer cells with less mutations!) And it wasn't the fact that he cut me off, but the way he did it. He accelerated as he approached a yellow as if he was about to go through it and then he cut into my lane and braked. I stopped behind him, and since nobody was me, I backed up a bit and got into the lane next to him. He reved a bit at the red just before green and then clearly floored it as I've never heard a Civic make those noises before except when the muffler was removed.

Anyways, I used about 60% throttle and let him beat me to 50 by a bit. When we got to the next light the passenger flashed me a lovely gang sign and then the passenger high fived the driver. So sad. I had to school them that low displacement in a 10K econo car can't compete with v6 power - plain and simple physics. So at the green I let him get a bit of a jump and then I got up to about 55 and looked to see where he was at. Hmm, about 2 car lengths behind me. I didn't even have a great launch as my tires are pretty bald now, but I did have an almost empty tank.

Moral of the story is that I have no stickers, no badges, no crazy wing (no spoiler whatsoever as I'm FWD), nada and I still won for a car that probably cost less including the mods. I removed the side door moldings and removed the Contour and SVT decals from my car. The exhaust is still stock, but air intake changed.

Stealth is the best. Probably the reason why I never got a speeding ticket while driving a station wagon at speeds of 90-100 mph on the 105 in broad daylight.

Hmm, a stationwagon, not a bad idea. I dont thinkmost cops will believe a station wagon could go so fast. And if they do catch you, if its in a family car usually you will get away with something like, "oh i didnt even know i was going so fast" or "sorry, i wasnt paying attention"

Seriously, a burgundy 1987 Taurus Station wagon. The only mod I ever really made to it performancewise was a friend put a Vortech in there for a while. It was fun actually pulling away from old Eclipses and weighted down Integras. The speedo on the wagon only goes to 85 haha!

I did get a ticket in the wagon though for a carpool violation which now makes me officially dislike the CHP because I KNOW they have some sort of quota thing going on.

Most ricecars will burn my wagon on 0-60, but if they're carrying 5 people and I have five people I'll beat them. Ever try racing a ricecar uphill? They have no torque! There's a overpass going over the 91 freeway between my highschool and home, and it was so much fun flooring the wagon cuz it would just use all that torque and really muster up the hill while most other cars would be screaming for power hehe http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/smile.gif I'm sure a Jeep would have spanked me uphill though. I saw a new Navigator floor it going up the mountains here in Diamond Bar area on the 57 and it was hauling ass!

Anyhow, I think the best "concealed" stock auto would be a BMW 540is touring. Man that wagon is sure a soccer mom hauler.

Honestly, and I don't like Caddy's, but the new Cadillac's (the "one that zag's" notwithstanding) are mucho fast, great engine. And only old folks drive them, so the cops NEVER pull over Caddy's unless they're driving too slowly...or have the left blinker on for 4 miles.

Yeesh, it's still a volvo. Can't think of them as actual sports cars. Chalk it up to years of getting picked up from school by my friends' mothers who all drive, well, like private school mothers: slow, poorly...anything BUT sporty!
Remember, it was the SUV/minivan of the late 80's/early 90's. "Safe and sensible".

well, today's SUVs are no longer safe (treads blowing, roll overs) nor sensible (astonomical price tags)

spigidygak
08-31-2000, 05:11 PM
Pshh. Tread blows. . . that's 'cause idiots would put too much air in their tires. Most had like 8-20 psi from reommended! There are some people with them at 45psi and more when they should be somewhere in the low-mid 30's. Rollovers only happen to crackheads who think you can drive a suv just like a car. . . stupid people, again might I remind you.

With all this talk of Volvo's, reminds me. The other day I saw a CHP volvo. The thing is tiny compared to the Crown Victorians I'm used to seeing. If I was a CHP, I'd rather have the Victorian just for its size and supercharged V8. Those volvo's look kinda pussy.

Yah, they look weak, but apperantly you should read the article
http://www.uniontrib.com/news/utarchives/cgi/idoc.cgi?495414+unix++www.uniontrib.com..80+Union-Tribune+Union-Tribune+Library+Library++%28Volvo

From the article:

"I think the Volvo's a four-door Mustang," said Sgt. Casey Cronin, an
instructor at the CHP's Emergency Vehicle Training Center in Sacramento.

If you've read up on Volvo 850s in the past, you would know they're not exactly slow cars.

I don't think price nor safety is what drives the SUV market. It's a) the perception of safety (due to size), b)utility, (due to size) and c) they look cool.
I didn't buy an SUV to drive it like a car.

The concept when refering to the Volvo was stealth. Common, who's going to expect a wagon to spank an Integra on the streets. I learned the hard way that when a car is bought for $40+K it usually has some muscle behind it (unless it's one of those old diesel MBs).

The car doesn't have to look intimidating for CHP. The fact that they have a shotgun/rifle mounted in the center of the front seat is good enough
