It seems like ATI is providing an early version of CATALYST 4.9 to users interested in increasing performance of Doom 3. The Canadians are eager to be seen doing something in order to improve the Doom 3 gaming experience for ATI board owners.....

Did anyone try that?? I didnt notice any difference..I have a ATI 9600 128mb PRO and I didnt notice any anything. Ohh well its still in BETA and so its not complete.

Here is the link for that

Its also comes with a hefty warning from ATI.. :throw:

they have a new revision of the control panel, too I've heard. I'm sticking with 4.6 until a new set has a considerable performance improvement in all games, not just one or two.

Since they released those beta drivers, they have come out with 4.8 drivers that are supposedly optimised for doom. They work well for me.

I haven't tried Doom 3 yet, but the 4.8 fixed some issues with Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow. Driver updates have increased my 3D Mark 2003 score by over 100 points from a year ago. No hardware changes.
