View Full Version : Is there anything special about turning 21?

I turn 21 next month and I'm in a bit of a funk about it. I haven't really done anything with my life, I'm in a mire at school. I just don't feel like I should be this old yet. I don't plan on drinking or gambling, so there isn't that to look forward to. Instead of being excited I'm just sorta depressed about the whole deal. Everyone keeps telling me I should do something, but I don't want to plan my own party, and I don't know what I'd do with it anyways. I dunno. I guess I'm just being whiney. Meh. :disa:

You don't have any friends who've already "crossed the great divide" who should be taking you out to celebrate proper?

Well... at 21, strip clubs are pretty nice to visit. :D
As far as the drinkin' goes... well that's just not my personal bag...
Pretty much the main thing is... if you've been sittin' on a bunch of trust funds and such, it's time to CASH IN baby!!! :kaching: :D

Just head to Vegas for the weekend. At 21 a whole new world will open up to you there. No better place to come of age than sin city.

In Vegas, you can eschew all responsibility for your actions. Because as long as you come back without any permanate injuries, you can just go back to normal life and never tell anyone anything.
In many ways, it's very much worth the money you lose. The casinos are oxygen rich so you can stay up all night and not get tired. It's like a caffine high without the jitters. The drinks are free as long as you're gambling... and Vegas is a bit more hands on with their "night clubs" :dodgy: not that I'd know anything about them. I think going to vegas when you're young and not married is the best because what's the worse that can happen? You get drunk and passout in a nice hotel? You lose what little money you have? You sleep with an asian you meet at a club who's of age but really looks like she's 14? Guilt, what guilt? it never happend.

one thing i can say - it only gets better each year. ;)
granted, you may feel you have expectations you havent met yet, and seeing your friends accomplish THEIR goals at 21 (academic, family, etc) may seem to reflect on you, but know this - those are THEIR GOALS, NOT YOURS.
so you dont drink, you dont gamble. those are good qualities in a man. know also that its not a prerequisite to BE a man.
you feel life is wasting away, and youre advancing in years - maybe you had a lot of fun in HS and college. and seems like at 21 it isnt the same. well guess what? IT ISNT. You are what American society calls an ADULT now, but it doesnt mean you have to force yourself to grow up. There is no such rule - hell im way over 18 and i still feel like it. Im responsible (in most cases ;) ), and i consider myself mature (for the most part :P ), but it never stopped me from feeling young and essentially being a kid at heart. Basically im saying that that being 21 doesnt mean the FUN is over.
you just barely scratched the surface of FUN. dig deeper, and theres a whole other world out there waiting for you. its only UP TO YOU to make it happen.
sure, you can stay where you are, feeling miserable, a bit sorry for yourself, etc. granted we dont know exactly how you feel (you alone know that), but if you feel let down by being 21, it can only mean that you havent gone far enough. you can do 2 things: stay the way you are, or go and explore what lies ahead of you.
and thats the beauty of that - you have a choice. being 21, you now are an adult. being an adult means you are now (Supposedly) mature enough to make decisions. decisions FOR YOURSELF. yo momma dont have to dress you up, your poppa dont have to tell you what to eat. you can now fully and freely make those decisions on your own.
now, whether theyre responsible or stupid decisions, that again is up to you. You may think of it as a burden - you want someone else to decide for you? youre not a sheep, are you? i didnt think so.
ITS POWER you have as an adult. use it well, and most importantly use it well for your happiness.
or not. :)
its really all up to you.

I suppose I was being a bit whiney, I guess in the back of my mind I know that 21 isn't that old. :) I've just had a bit of stress lately; Fired from my job (in the process of possibly getting rehired), Thinking of changing majors at school, dealing with family crap, etc. So I don't know, meh.

21 is the last great year (except in career aspects) so spend it having fun. Don't waste it thinking of the future, waste is so in the future you can't remember it! Plausable deniability.
