You are correct that this rationale makes no sense UNLESS you compare it to a tax. You earn a certain amount of money (i.e., points) during the year, and at the end of the year you have to pay the government a certain percentage (i.e., paying STAR 10%).

STAR must know that Americans love paying taxes.

Here's some food for thought: If we prove that we are illegal aliens that don't pay taxes, is it possible that STAR won't take our 10%?

I wouldn't cry over losing any EIP points - I think Star has gone so far downhill it's not even worth it. If it weren't for this forum, I think half of the listeners wouldn't even have any points anymore!

I decided to blow all of my points (120K+) last week on the raffle for the trip to anywhere. Naturally, I lost. But nothing ventured, nothing gained - and I figured they were all just a bunch of useless points anyway!

The so-called prizes they're offering now suck. In fact, instead of wasting 50,000 points on a Senseo Coffee System, you can just visit the website at http://senseo.lissonline.com/DropYourDrip/DropYourDripOnline.aspx

Senseo was giving the systems away online, but I think they met their limit, so now you have to attend the promotion in person at the Irvine Spectrum if you want to get one for free. Or, you can always spend 50,000 of those otherwise useless EIP points to get your "free" system! It's free to everyone, but it's a 50,000 point "prize" on Star EIP. Star is such a scam! :bash:

I got 65,000 useless points that I have worked on all year and now it's being threatened to be reduced because they can't get enough prizes to accomodate the listeners.:bonk:


I wouldn't cry over losing any EIP points - I think Star has gone so far downhill it's not even worth it. If it weren't for this forum, I think half of the listeners wouldn't even have any points anymore!

I decided to blow all of my points (120K+) last week on the raffle for the trip to anywhere. Naturally, I lost. But nothing ventured, nothing gained - and I figured they were all just a bunch of useless points anyway!

The so-called prizes they're offering now suck. In fact, instead of wasting 50,000 points on a Senseo Coffee System, you can just visit the website at http://senseo.lissonline.com/DropYourDrip/DropYourDripOnline.aspx

Senseo was giving the systems away online, but I think they met their limit, so now you have to attend the promotion in person at the Irvine Spectrum if you want to get one for free. Or, you can always spend 50,000 of those otherwise useless EIP points to get your "free" system! It's free to everyone, but it's a 50,000 point "prize" on Star EIP. Star is such a scam! :bash:

Its not too much to expect folks to take a look at what previously posted especially when it was a few posts up. So please use the scroll button. And if a repost happens once in a blue moon its no big deal worthy of rudeness.

This is kind of reminiscent of a matter back a couple years ago. On one extreme there were those who wouldn't even bother to take a cursory glance to see if something had been posted. It really smacked of laziness. Then on the other hand were others going way overboard being repost monkeys. That started when one prominent poster began playfully pointing out reposts. But then others, instead of getting their own schtick, just had to jump on the bandwagon. :2far: As you can imagine this got old and annoying real fast. Think of having multiple people racing to be the first to scream repost in a thread. They were searching back years just to be able to point out a repost. Think of multiple people saying repost in a thread basically doing a lame postcount+1 act. Indeed this behavior didn't have a positive effect overall. People who wanted to post a thread would spend minutes making sure something hadn't ever been posted before. Do that a few times and the rationale can become "if I'm going to get hassled for potentially reposting something I may not just bother."

How did everything get resolved? A consensus was hashed out in a couple tense threads: If a repost happens with the original thread a few threads down one of the Holy Repost Batman images get busted out. If a repost happens within a certain amount of time a link under the heading of repost to the original thread gets done. Those who repost grin and bear it. And yes, there are allowances made cause sometimes a thread is posted in different forums or the title of a thread doesn't accurately described what its about.

Like many things in life it gets down to balance. Now back to the posting codes and winning of prizes. Finally, please enjoy your weekend.

Looks like Star is pulling the plug on alot of people... I've been playing since a year ago, and well, at 100k points, I have alot to lose, and nothing to spend it on. But really, 10 % isn't THAT bad... yes, you may or may not get the prize you want a week later that comes up, but hey, that's life. And maybe others might try to raffle away their points to win something so STAR can't deduct anything (stupid thinking imho, since after there might be some good prizes after points are deducted). But it's all FREE ! do you really believe that you should get something, even if it is crappy, just because they are deducting points? I might if they were ending the rewards program, but i dunno, some people like crappy and free stuff i guess, like the computer shown below.

I think this because when I read the revised Rules I noticed it talks specifically about using means other than listening to the radio to get the password as a no-no.

The problem now is that everyone is trying to log in at the same time which crashed their servers and that is why we're all getting the "Page Not Found" message. Looks like a giant step backward. :banghead:

P.S. I was able to get at least one of the xtra credits (STARBMW) entered on the new site at about 1:40pm, but from 1:50 on the site was hammered.

I understand about the 5 minute grace period. It really sucks for those of us not near our computers when it's time to enter the password even with 5 minutes leeway. Also as we have seen when thousands of us try to enter the password at the same time it crashes their servers. This used to happen on the old site in the mornings somtimes when lots of people were trying to enter the password at the same time. At least then we could wait until later in the day and still enter the password.

All of this is making me want to listen to Star less and less. Yes, I realize it's a game and free and all, but it should be somewhat fun (and fair) otherwise why bother?

Its an if-y situation but they MIGHT have figured out a problem and today made it strict on the 5 minute rule! And since yesterday there were a ton of issues with logging in, they expanded the time to make it 'fair'... but I was able to input the 850 this morning and didnt have problems.

Now that I have figured out what I was doing wrong, I believe they are using us to 'test' server load. That's why they're using the times the regular password would be released. Giving us a 5 min window will have us all trying to hammer the server at the same times so they can test the load. We'll have to wait and see if there is a strict 5 min window today or if they just want us to 'think' there is for testing purposes.

Well, it seems to be working now...I agree, I think they're trying to judge the amount of load at PRIZE times, so that they can handle the traffic. So by offering BONUS points, they can test it without taking into consideration that all have enough points and want what prizes they're offering.

It would be tough for them to uphold that because people could be driving to work when they listen or working in any situation where a computer with internet access is not in front of them and it wouldnt be fair. I think they were testing the capabilities to how many people the system can stand at one specific time period.
