View Full Version : S: GAM Mistake
Just a notice to any and all forum members:
I have contacted GAM about their decision to move this thread (http://www.gotapex.com/forums/showthread.php?t=78707) from the Deals forum to the Spam forum. This deal CLEARLY does not have any referral information in it. It is simply a link to FatWallet, and even the link given on that forum is non-referral.
I also do not see the need to change this poster's rank to "deck swabber" as they did nothing to violate forum rules. If they had a problem with my post that gave an OPTIONAL link to help Maarchk out, and it was clearly labeled as the MLM forum, they could have deleted my post, no hard feelings. Do not take away someone's deal just because of that. I have a feeling they immediately saw "infone" and went to town after that.
I request that all Moderators re-read the Deals Forum Rules (http://www.gotapex.com/forums/announcement.php?f=5).
Should they have moved this deal to the spam forum?

You make it sound like there are a bunch of them... Afaik, aside from the admin (Apex & Leon) who move & delete things occasionally, there is only one GAM...
Talk about being on your high horse with that one... :|

Maybe its time for you to stop being on your high horse... I know I'm not the only one growing tired of you throwing around your coupon-wielding powers as if you are the all knowing authority around here.
And stop acting stupid... a lot of us around here know more than you think we do...

Me on MY high horse? Excuse me, I don't want any trouble ma'am, but I believe I handled it in a more professional way than most people carry themselves around here. I think I missed the part where I gloated.
Whoever decided to move that post is on HIS or HER high horse. Not following forum guidelines and giving the new member a negative custom rank. I'm still waiting to understand what was wrong with the original post he or she made.
It is perfectly fine to make mistakes as long as you correct them.
If it was not a mistake, please explain why it violated forum guidelines to post a non-referral link as a deal.

My guess is that it wasn't the original post, but that you replied with what was basically a referral link. (I have no opinion on this, just pointing that out...)
Well, I posted a link within the forum, also stating it was optional and it was clearly labeled as going to the MLM forum. I can understand removing the link to the inter-board forum, but the only beef I have is removing someone else's deal.
Another thing to understand is that I have nothing to gain by protesting this... I am doing it to help the original poster of the deal. That's part of the deal community. So not to beat a dead horse :P but I am the least of people who should be thought of as on a high horse.

Look guy, Jenny is a well respected member of the G|A community and she WORKS for this website. She used to do some admin stuff but got tired of people like you throwing down their dick every time they felt wronged.
She tries to remind people that doing stuff IS wrong, getting asked by her is a LOT better than getting asked by GAM.
Now, you can stop this crap and knock it off, or the GAM WILL smack you down.

my 5 cents:
ski, i think it's pretty clear that Cachygirl came from FatWallet and is promoting that site. she could have posted the deal here w/o linking us to FW to find it.
truth be known, that was the first kinda post i put up on Got/Apex myself. i came here and promoted another hot deal site in a roundabout way.
my post was promptly put in the spam bucket forum.
Jen girl, your reply to ski was a bit condescending. i know it's hard to have authority and not admit to it every now and then, but how was he supposed to know there is only one GAM? i thought there was a herd of them too.
nickel, that makes sense...
it's just Tim doesn't need people to advertise for his site... FatWallet has been making unbelievable amounts of money and progress as it is. They hired a graphics design firm to help create first, the revamped logo, and next, the revamped whole website. That's much bigger than this site, NOT to say it makes it better, just that they don't need to send peons out to advertise on other forums for their forums, not even the website. I could definitely see this as a problem if someone new showed up and was like "check out my new deals site, go here THEN click here to get the deal"
Oh well... moving onto bigger and better things!

most sites of substance have a "no promoting rule" no matter whether or not the offending site needs the advert or not.
i guess if Cachygrl had more than 2 posts it wouldn't seem like that was what she was doing?
i dunno, i guess she didn't deserve the label. that seemed Anandtech-like.
i dunno, i guess she didn't deserve the label. that seemed Anandtech-like.
What's next? G|A?Banned :P
Anyway, I realize that FatWallet gets credit if anyone in the forum links to popular stores like Amazon, Buy, etc., but I'm pretty sure there wasn't any referral info for infone. It's not that big of a company.
Bah well, like I said, I was just mad they weren't clear on why she deserved the negative title and why exactly they moved it.

I probably overreacted. I get pissed off when people bitch about decisions that GAM or Apex or Leon, etc make. I should have stated my feelings differently. Next time, the proper thing to do would be to send a pm to GAM (or whoever) instead of posting **** about it. When it's the admin of the site, that is the right thing to do, imo. I apologize for sounding bitchy about it, but like I said, that's one thing that pushes my buttons on here more than anything. ;)

Good. Then shut-up already and quit replying.
Next time, the proper thing to do would be to send a pm to GAM (or whoever) instead of posting **** about it.
The first thing I did was send a PM to GAM.
The second thing is that this is the description for the Suckage/Not-So-Suckage forum: "Need to get something off your chest, too many Dells deals got you down or just want to say nice things, this is the place to do it."
So please, don't get outraged like that when this is the right forum for me to say in a calm, factual manner what is on my mind. I definitely don't think I posted "****" ... if I were whining without any substantial evidence, sure, go ahead... but if you took a look everything I said, you would see that I explicitly outlined what the problem was.
At any rate, like I said, case closed on this.

Oh please, let's not do this. This is one of the more pointless internet grammar fights period.
It means "I could care less, but it take effort that you're not worth," or "I COULD care less, but I doubt it," and is a regional phrase. It's not incorrect in that regard, only in a grammar sense, much like "Y'all". Since grammer is in fact a function of dialect shifts and regional phrasing (not the other way around) this is one of those things, like 'ain't' or 'irregardless' that over time becomes more accepted, if not actually proper.

Blame 2 years of lingustic courses. Because that's pretty much the birth of English in a nutshell. Old English didn't even use the same vowels we do now, and shifted to what we have today as a result of the reality of how people were speaking. You go 200 hundred years back, or 200 years forward, and you'll have some trouble being understood, the rules will have changed so much. And no, I'm not talking slang.
English is constantly in flux, and the rules of grammer change as a result, all the time. In fact, some have argued that the constant harping of so called 'grammer natzis' actually harms the growth of English. I don't think it matters either way, since it's not like there is a panel somewhere that decides how we all speak. We decide as a collective group in how we talk, and English teachers come after the fact.

Since Monday, I have been working on classes for about 16-18 hours each day. When you are as busy as I am earning a respectable degree, you have to include something else in your day aside from work and sleep. Some people have time for significant others or just cruising around... during the week, all I have time for is the "frekin internet" :spock:

I take an 8am over a 6 am and a 6 pm class..
At least my professors get me in the same state of mind. :dead:

i understand that. but...i was only kiddingly chiding lk about constantly messing that phrase up. i'm semi-frustrated at the fact that people don't care whether or not they use the phrase correctly.
That's because, as far as they are concerned, they are using it correctly. It's precisely in that way that English changes. I understand what you are saying though, they're are phrases that bug me too. And others I abuse with gleeful abandon. But I'm kind of a jerk, really.

My 6pm lasts until 10pm.... I think we ought to both just shoot ourselves. Or at least be allowed to drink in class. It would definitely add to the joy i get when discussing peoples disorders.

Annoying English Error of the Day: Expresso.
i don't make it a habit of correcting people unless asked. in this case, it was in work being done for someone else so i had to be the advocate. at a sign company i do expediting for, i glanced over at the graphic designer's computer and saw him typing in "expresso" to be put on a sign, then he said, "that's the spelling... i think. right?"
i politely told him it was incorrect. he acted dubious about my input and was like "no i've seen it this way." i explained no matter how rampant that alternate spelling is, that "espresso" is the shortened version of the Italian "caffe espresso" and is the more sensible spelling. i don't know if he believed me in the end or not. why even bother asking if you're just gonna be like "no" :2far:
should we make this a daily thread? "TMOTD" (the misnomer of the day). it just might be helpful to someone out there :P

I have perfect grammar and punctuation, and I never use profanity.
Therefore, I am always right, and those that argue with me by default are wrong.

incorrect grammar makes you look bad. not so much here, but def in rl. if i hear someone say i could care less, i immediately notice. if they say suposubly, then i'm sure they're ignorant.

Do you think Mojo knows he still shows up in polls.
Cheapie, I think LK might have meant that though he care's very little about this issue, it's even less important than that.

no offense but i don't buy that. people that say "i could care less" are definately not differentiating that phrase from "i couldn't care less." LK always says the former, as does everyone that messes it up.
while i was just teasing him, i think it's a crock to say that it's grammatically (sp?) correct to say it either way. nobody says "i could care less" with the intention of meaning that it's in the middle of the things they care about. the implication is always that it is at the bottom of the things you care about.
If you want to be a prick, then go ahead, I could care less. is there a doubt that he meant...go ahead and be a prick, i don't care at all...?
btw, i'm not a grammar nazi. i just said it teasingly but since i was called out on it, i figure i might as well defend myself.

So are you saying that the saying "I could care less" is incorrect?
So are you saying that the saying "I could care less" is incorrect?
Yes. If you don't care, you would say I couldn't care less.
By saying I could care less you are implying that you already care.

Damn so for the past 20 some years I've been saying it incorrectly. Put a match under my ass and call me stupid. I guess you do learn something new everyday.

I see what you are saying. I agree grammatically you are correct IF you are meaning it to be that you couldn't care less on the given subject.
Me, I grew up saying "I could care less" and so did my whole family. I was taught that it was a shortened "slang" for "I could care less if I wanted to waste more of my time..." type of a thing. It was an understood. Now, that might have been a regional thing... I couldn't tell ya. I just know that is what was explained to me as a kiddo.
