Get one of those bamboo ones. They work well.

bamboo steamers are ok, but they're hard to clean, especially if you use meat right on the wood (think cross contamination). What you can do with them, is to put the stuff in a bowl and put the bowl inside the steamer. That way nothing is touching the wood. Something like this: http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=-1&SKU=100170
or http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=-1&SKU=10152879
or you can buy a whole machine: http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=-1&SKU=10388449
I have one of those spiders, but you can't cook rice in it. Are you trying to make a chinese dish? If so, please send me the recipe ;) It sounds good and healthy like I need it to be.

I have one it's an Oster. I never had one before (besides a 3 cup rice cooker) and didn't want to spend a whole lot of money on one without trying one first. I bought it at Target when they were clearancing out the housewares last fall/winter. http://www.oster.com/productdetail.aspx?id=18&cat=27 is very similar to what I bought. I like cooking with it. I probably use it 2-3 times a month and will use it more during the winter when we don't want to grill which we do more often than not.
anyway, I like it. it's easy to use, food tastes good. And I paid around $13 for mine so I would have to say it was worth it and I got my money's worth out of it. It's not a terrible design. I have seen better designs for storage and ones with 3 tiers which would be nice.
I will write more if you want later -- Patrick is helping me type right now and it's not really helping.
