Whenever I take my family out to eat at an Asian restaurant, all of the staff seem to go crazy over my little boys. They spend a lot of time touching, kissing, talking to, and making faces at the boys. They get attention at non-Asian places but nothing like when we go out for Chinese.

Anybody else notice this?

yeah...i think chinese waiters and waitresses love little kids...at least ones that don't have spiky hair full of gel and an "gangsta" attitude

I'm chinese btw, so i'm not being biased ;)

my wife and i are not the type of parents that freak out if strangers touch our kids, or if they eat stuff off the floor, etc. but i know friends of mine that are. of course, they are new parents and have yet to realize that no matter what you do, your kid will end up chewing on the railing at the mall where countless hands w/God knows what on them have been.

yep, and that is why I believe slober is one of the best things God gave kids. It washes everything before it gets into the mouth or as it gets into the mouth.

That stuff happens to me all the time. I don't have kids, but when I go to restaurants the waiters and staff like touching me and stuff. :)

:hmm: I thought we were talking about chinese restaurants and this happens at all of them. Sometimes at beefbowl too. Hasn't happened at Panda Express yet. There was this one time at Taco bell..

yeah I notice this when I take my little brother out with me sometimes. They get excited or something when they see little kids. I guess it is like an Asian thing.

I think many cultures do that. My mom does it all the time when she sees a kid and I think it's emberassing as hell.

*shrug* hard to say... But I have noticed it also, it would seem that all wait staff enjoy children. They are a gift... sometimes a white elephant :D, but mostly a gift from God.

Hey, why else do you think China's population is 1.2 billion+ ppl?

A Chinese restaurant is no longer family oriented if Pablo Francisco's version of those places is true.

I kill him, enjoy.

Hmm, maybe your baby is just really cute. Or maybe you just notice it more in Chinese restaurants because asian people are different.

Now, if they asked you to have your little boy stand up while naked and take pictures of him, that might be an asian thng.

The sad thing is I remember doing this as a kid.

But yeah, when I take the girl out to go eat vietnamese, I have a very specific restaraunt that I go to; family owned for years. Every time I go, the little old man manager makes small talk with us out of nowhere and recommends we order specific things, then shows us all the ways to eat it. Then he starts talking about his cooking class on thursday nights and all his vietnamese traditions and.....blah blah blah.

Maybe the chinese restaraunt you go to is family owned. It seems like people who own those little restaraunts LOVE doing what they do and truly are people people. Be grateful you found a place that loves to have you there.

my parents had frequented this one chinese place from before i was even born that we still sometimes go to. they saw me grow up pretty much, each time saying how big i was getting even if they'd seen me a couple weeks before, and in general smothering me with attention the WHOLE time. a couple other chinese places now do the same thing with my niece.

they'd ask so many questions... one highlight was one of the waitresses asking my mom if she plucked my eyebrows when i was like, 8 :| i guess it could happen. i was actually there a couple times recently and "how tall i got" was the topic for most of the time. asian kids are just soo cute, not to mention the beautiful hair, why do they even bother with us? :P

Children in general are a huge deal to most Asians I've found. Children are the future to them and as precious as gold. They definately do not take children for granted. I think thats why they are still one of most strictest of cultures with their children even to an adolecent age.

that's a good explaination.

totally jumping the shark but if our next kid isn't a girl we'll likely go adopt a girl from china.

there is a chinese resturant where I live and they have two girls. the oldest is 3. shes so cute. always in her own world. we've learn that gogo to them means older boy, they refer to our oldest boy as gogo.

she has a younger sister so she is refered to as gaga. thats the way the mother described it to me, anyhow.

i don't have kids... i just have never noticed servers at asian restuarants touching kids in general... the servers at most of the asian establishments that i go to seem too reserved to just reach over and start touching some random patron's kid

Yeah! I know exactly what you are talking about! This happens everytime we go to this local Chinese buffet. All the female employees practically pull up a chair and sit with Gabby making faces and cooing over her. I was just like...hey...kid's entertained! Didn't bother me one bit.

as brewmaster said, go-go means doggie

guh-guh is the proper pronunciation, it means "older brother"
mei-mei is "younger sister"
