I am not sure what hit me - it could be a Spy-ware. My homepage kept showing this "about:blank" page. I can't seem to change the homepage. Can anyone help. Thanks

It isn't a fun one to remove. I have posted in the past about how to use tools from sysinternals to remove spyware.

You definitely need to be a bit tech-savy to remove them manually, and I don't think there's any good programs out there to remove something like the 'about:blank' variants automatically.

try the latest versions of spybot or ad-aware. theyre free. theyve been updated late last month. also try CWShredder. (in that link).
also if you try them, make sure you go into SAFE MODE to run it. some spywares tend to run in the background and makes it difficult to delete.
if you have to buy software, Pest Patrol and Spy Sweeper have been tested to eliminate spyware also.

ultimately, if you cant remove it, try a different browser (mozilla or firefox or opera).

It could be some kind of browser hijackers, maybe CoolWebSearch (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CoolWebSearch) or AutoSearch (http://www.2-spyware.com/remove-autosearch.html) or other.

This crap in most cases comes together with variuos toolbars. So Far I did not hear that Google Toolbar or Yahoo! Toolbar distributed these hijackers. But still it is funny to hear that the solution of this problem is not to use browser at all.
