OK, being a bit of a cheapskate tonight. Wife had asked me to get the "Walkie Talkie Man" song (from iPod commercial) for her. It's out there for 99c but I figured I'd see if it was sitting around for free somewhere.

Came accross this Neagtive Beats website. Seems to be offering free MP3's, but is it also offering a world of pain and spyware as part of the deal?

Anyone know anything?

club.mp3search.ru 10 cents per song. Legit in russia, questionable here.

Oh yes, sending my credit card details to Russia, please, where do I sign up?

I was also thinking about making photocopies of my social security card and handing them out around the city. If anyone is interested I can also tell you where I hide the spare key to my house, and the code to my security system.

As questionable as it looks, mp3search.ru is a "legit" site, in that they are not out to steal your credit card, just sell you music that they may or may not TECHNICALLY have rights to under Russian law. They've been around for years & no one has been able to shut them down yet - they seem to have found some footing in a very grey area of the law.

I do know people who have bought music from there with no problems.

I may give the russian site a go then, but I'll be cautious about it, using my "alternate" debit card that doesn't hold a big balance.

Another option coule be one of those pre paid VISA cards I've seen around. You could put some cash on one of those, and use that for online purchases, safe in the knowledge that if someone does screw around with it, the worst that can happen is that they get what's left of your balance.

So does nobody know anything about Negative beats?

Good point. I think I meant Credit, but it's good that you bring it up. From what I understand you can dispute credit charges and not be liabile for them, but if someone drains your debit account you are f*cked.

Any difference in the level of access they can get to your SSN and other things?
