I was standing by my car today at a gas pump (after waiting in a long line...people are in a panic over Ivan) when someone in an partially wrecked BMW misjudged her distances and hit my parked car, damaging mainly my bumper (big gouge) and sidewall of my (expensive) tire. So I had to change my tire at the gas pump. I have to try to get a new tire ASAP in case I have to evacuate. Just another suckage hassle.

Is your car new? Maybe it is time to trade it in for a different car! It seems like it is prone to abuse. I had one that got hit 5 times before I decided to just to get a different one.

I got her info. She happens to be a lawyer and carried a camera. Weird. Anyway, I had the dealership fax her the quote for the new tire. That's my biggest priority in case I have to evacuate. And it will take another day or two (or more, depending on the hurricane) for the body work quote. It was probably a bad move to not call the police (on private property anyway), but I have all her contact information, etc.

Heh...that would be major suckage. I'm sure there's at least one honest lawyer.

I hope.

Eh, I figure it'll turn out well. Unless you find out that she's a malpractice lawyer. Then you know she'll be on you to get her money back.

Well hopefully you won't have too much of a hassle getting it fixed.

BTW how is the hurricane situation? I have a brother lives about an hour from New Orleans.

LOL. I hope not. :)

People are really going nuts over this hurricane. The probability of a hit is around 22% or so right now, but they keep drifting the cone more and more to the west. I think that was part of the problem yesterday. The woman simply wasn't paying attention while driving. It was amazing watching everyone drive aggressively (honking horns, obscene gestures, etc...lots of road rage) on an otherwise beautiful summer day, all out of panic.

If Ivan hits here, computer models show 20+ feet of flooding for up to (worst case) 10 months. Venice, but more polluted. I'm on the "recovery" team at the hospital, so I may be able to take off tonight or tomorrow morning, but it may be damn near impossible to evacuate with traffiic. It really is a strange situation.
