Ok... I hadn't seen any threads on this game.... so I thought that I'd start one.

What do folks around here think about it? Is it gonna be worthwhile to buy as a FPS experience... or have you heard anything that would make you stay far far away from it?

I just wanted to see what you guys thought about it...

No demo, lousy graphics (from the screenshots) and it looks like a UT2004 (onslaught) cloan repackaged for SW fans.

Pass.

Just off the commercials (since that's all i've seen) It doesn't even look like an FPS. It looks more like a 3rd person genre.

Besides, I'm extremely skeptical about anthing that has the Star Wars name attached to it, that isn't a movie. . .

Haven't played a demo or anything, but from various video clips, I'm not impressed. Like a Counter-Strike clone with a Star Wars skin... only worse. A couple cool features (vehicles, jetpack...) but the graphics and gameplay leave much to be desired. I won't be checking it out when it releases.

Besides KOTOR, which was better than the new movies...

Quite understandably, since many of the video games have stunk pretty bad. But we must not forget:

Dark Forces
Jedi Knight
Jedi Knight: Jedi Outcast
Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy
and of course KOTOR

Which were all great games.

The gamespy review implied the AI was dumb as a post.

KOTOR and its sequel are probably the best Star Wars games in a long time.

There is a KOTOR sequel?

I too was wondering opinions on this. The demo isn't avaliable so I don't know what to do. At least for me who is not a big gamer and plays games to kill time can't decide if its worth the $. From what i've read so far here, it sounds like I might pass on it.

Caught the demo at EB Games (in UTC, La Jolla CA). The vehicles are a nice gimmick, but if you don't get a vehicle running just feels very very slow. Maybe because the maps are big, I don't know. It just didn't seem fun though.

I finished this game, and some of your fears are not warranted, though the AI is as dumb as a post.

First, I played a little on the xbox and the rest on the PC (gasp! gear's playing a PC game!) The PC version is TONS nicer, and I don't even have a good enough computer to play doom 3 at decent graphics. The graphics aren't as sharp as Far Cry, but they're good enough.

What Battlefield does well is give you a sense of scale. There are always times where there are HUGE firefights. I mean like the movie where lasers are shooting all over the place. You really do feel like you're in an epic battle. Then you get the vehicles, which are very cool. Imagine this, you're running around on hoth dodging shots while trying to nail some troopers. You hear a snowspeeder overhead and you turn around to see an AT-AT coming right at you. Your lasers don't do squat, and you could fire missles at it for weeks and still not kill it, so you run. That's incredibly cool. The same feeling happens when you play the clone wars and you see those really large droid vehicles. Plus going one on one with one of those rotary droids that has shields sucks ass. Damn, I can't tell you how many times I've been clearing out the room and then one of those suckers rolls in, opens his shields and I run away or get shot in the back.

With that said, the worst thing about this game is the AI. They're incredibly dumb, but luckily you can kick them out of vehicles if you need it. They're worse than BF1942 bots, and it's sorta understandable since there are literally 30-50 bots on the map at one time. This is necessary to create that sense of scale, but it gets a little annoying to not have backup when you need it. On a good note, if you lead a bunch into a battle, they'll hold their own if you get killed and respawn, but they won't be that proactive when you leave them alone.

Other smaller gripes. The ships are close to useless sometimes in this game. The air above the map is limited by the size of the map, so you feel like you're going in circles to avoid leaving the screen. Hopefully someone will design maps so you have freedom to fly. You do get to fly a little if you want, since a number of enemy bots always jump into their ships and fly around. Also on Hoth, it's required to use the snowspeeders since the AT-ATs can only be taken down with them.

The hit boxes on the models aren't to the sophistication of the newer FPS. It's more like BF1942 in a star wars era.

I haven't been able to play multiplayer yet (damn you Burnout 3!), but from what I heard you can play with or without bots online. The bots are needed to add that sense of scale, but like before, dumb as posts.

Is it a good game? Yes. Memorable? Yes. Replayability? Limited at best unless you play a lot of multiplayer.

I'd seriously recommend it if you are a star wars fan. Just to be able to relive some of the battles is worth it.

I'm playing it right now, and it's a very easy game to get into. Maybe it's because I haven't been playing the new UT's or BF1942, but the commercials do justice -- you feel like you're in the movie at times.

I finished the entire game (literally everything) in one night with a friend of mine. Game wasn't too challenging, but it was fun playing as different characters and different classes.

Rental if you ask me.

I think the main appeal is the online play, like BF1942.

yup, as a guy who is active in the BF1942 community, thats why everyone is stoked about it. BF1942 style play, Star Wars Style

I just got this game for Christmas, well actually my little brother got it but his computer isn't fast enough to play it ;) so I got it by default. I am interested in the online playing. Can anyone tell me what to expect? I am only familiar with Quake/Unreal and Return to Castle Wolfenstein Enemy Territory for online gaming. Is it like these games by any chance?

No its more like battlefield 1942 put in the star wars world.

I played it at CompUSA, and I think it's pretty fun, but it is sort of the SAME thing over and over. That might be because I didn't really explore the game more, and do other game modes (thats prolly it).. but it was still fun to play as the droids against the Naboo peoples. You can get in vehicles, like the hover tank things, and drive around and shoot and run over people, its pretty cool.

I hated 1942 because the vehicles killed any game balance. Still haven't played Battlefront for any extended period of time, but that review lets me sleep a little easier about it.

omg i love this game. i wish there were a few more environments to play in, but the sound environment is gorgeous (if you have surround sound, your adrenaline will shoot up), the selection of weapons is lots of fun - each weapon is VERY distinctive, moreso than in halo - and they did a VERY good job of smoothly integrating the map screens into the gameplay (something i find to be rare.) i'd rather play it than halo2. although, it doesn't have an adventure mode like halo... and it only supports two players per xbox, so keep those two things in mind if they're important to you...

i dunno. there's just something about being a skinny little rebel sniper girl, army crawling on my belly through the jungles of kashyyk and takin out stormtroopers that makes my day :D

the game it self isnt the best, but come on, you can kill an army of gungans by your self, SOOOOOOO MUCH FUN
