Best AV program?

What's the best anti-virus program out there? I have norton but I hear it's hard to remove / uninstall completely.

Any ones out there that doesn't require annual subscriptions that are worth a lick?

I use Avast Antivirus (www.avast.com)

You have to register, but everything is free.
