I was just wondering what you all thought the best game ever created is. My personal vote goes out to Stunts. I spent more time playing this game than I care to admit.

Leon is being a comic hehe.

Anyways, X-Com was really fun, definitely in my top 10, but wouldn't say it's my best.

I would have to give it to one of the Microprose games. Civilization was the role model for every game after it so it needs props. Master of Orion and Master of Magic, man, those two won game of the Year back to back for Microprose. Age Of Empires and C&C are pretty awesome too!

Wolfenstein and Doom, oh man! Brings back memories of net games in high school and UCLA dorm parties. Watch out for me and my big bass rockets on Level 7 haha.

Hmm, anybody remember the likes of Scorched Earth or F-15 (the one that fit on a 1.2 Floppy).

BTW, I say I have lost well over 2000 hours of my life to Master Of Orion. The game is over 8 years old and I'm playing it tonight even. If you love strategy games this is probably the best.

it's amazing how games you loved at one time seems quite dull nowadays if you were to whip them out agian.
My favorite SNES game must be FF4 (FF2 in US)
Just because it was my first step toward RPGs
hehe then Secret of Mana came along and opened up a whole new field of possibilities =)

Oh, god, the list is long and distinguished. I noticed Baseball stars up there, still kicks all sports games patootie all over the field, best sports game ever, hands down...except for Baseball Stars II, but that had some glitches in it.
SNES, although no-one ever played it, was Ogre Battle. Oh, jebus, did I play that for a long time. N64 has had nothing, never liked Kart or Goldeneye, but early college life was all about DIABLO. That one sticks out. But I gotta say, the oldies were golden indeed. The aforementioned baseball classic, and Super Techmo Bowl was also great. Double Dribble had its appeal...jeez, what else? Doom was classic as well, I guess, but Wolfenstien gets props for being there back in the day.

MadCool
06-20-2000, 10:56 PM
Double Dribble!!! that was a cool b-ball game! I thought techmo basketball was cool too with all those injurys heh. Fond memories also goes to the game ExciteBike and Pro Wrestling. those were like the first game to come out for the NES. But I still think Double Dragon 2 was the best NES game there was.. even the first Double Dragon kicked ass.

Techmo basketball was ok, but the game play was not as good as DD. As for Double Dragon, I really wasn't that much of a fan. I have to say, for side-scrolling punch-em ups, Knights of the Round was the only thing worth playing. That was fun, everything before it was still trying to get it right. Mad props to pro wrestling and excite bike, though. You wouldn't think excitebike would have been fun, but god did I love playing that game...still do.

early 80s - Beyond Castle Wolfenstein. This game still rules!

late 80s - Ultima IV. I was in college when this game came out and almost failed school due to spending a solid 3 weeks with "naps" here in there playing this game

mid 90s - Doom II. Nothing, I mean nothing came close to this game

late 90s - Half-life & TFC until patch 1.1.0.0 was the best game peroid. When the patch was applied tfc fell to about fourth place and isnt worth bothering with any more.

Tood bad!

X-Com took up all of my freshmen year of high school. then there was doom. Scorched Earth is DEFINITELY a classic. i don't think i've attacked any game like i did X-COM for a while though. what a great game. that sucker kicked butt on my 486 DX2/66 w/8mb mem. 420 gig hard drive baby. Double speed CD-rom. it was the best. i loved that thing....

I gotta agree with SJarred...DOOM is what got me interested in gaming. The original is always the best! What about M.U.L.E.? Jeez, that game was responsible for some of my dropping grades in HS!

CluelessSi
06-22-2000, 09:28 AM
Doom and Wolf was good but quake was the one i really spent time on especially the TF mod and the Qball mod

I don't really like the new quake 3 tf for quake 1 is still the best the graphics might not amaze you but gameplay was great and the poor graphics help you move faster in multiplayer but if you like good graphic you can put on OpenGL and it is just as good =)

colossus
06-24-2000, 01:58 AM
See all these "kids" don't know about Wolfenstein and they think Doom has sucky graphics. Damn, I remember UCLA had Doom parties for 2 years advertised all over the place. It was on the nightly news and even used as benchmarks by some performance PC mags haha.

And Civilization by Sid Meyer, nothing gave more to RTS so far than that game. Every RTS from Microprose for the next 5 years was referred to or compared to Civ.

And if you youngins haven't tried Scorched Earth - try it. It will look like the lamest game on earth. But if you get 5 people around the machine you guys will go bonkers trying to kill each other.

Something to say for those games that fit on a 1.2MB floppy http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/smile.gif

Oh, and I forgot to say something about Ultima. That game has/had more of a following than any game ever. I mean it went to what, 9 editions?

I started Ultima IV in mid highschool, and Ultima 6 slaughter my senior year of HS. Thank God it came out after APs and the Prom so I lost a summer to that damn thing. Still have the map I drew by hand, tile by tile hanging on my bedroom wall.

Anybody ever play The Bards Tale?
That was a cool adventure game, I really liked the fact that if you blew all your money gambling you could just go rob the store. That was so cool.

You might want to check out emulators. I have been playing around with the mame32 program for a while now, and find it amazingly fun. You d/l the program and then "plug-in" the games. There are over 1000 old coin op games available, including frogger and missile command. There are also atari 2600 emulators, but I find them a little drab, whats the point in emulating a coin op game on an atari on your computer when you can just emulate the coin op game? Try it out, i think you'll like it. Search:"mame".

In terms of best games i've played (i don't typically play Sports and Roleplaying)

The most intensive game i've ever played is Halflife. It's the most immersive enviorment ever. The most long lasting, i still play it in my dreams, is X-Com. I played that game for SO many hours, i don't mean it was a long game, i just played it many times cuz it has such a great replay value. The plot was amazing, the graphics and sound are enough to approach the shadows with paranoia. And the music was also GREAT. It combined RTS resource managing with turn-based action. I want to play that game again!!!!!! I don't have it anymore...everyone buy the collection...though i didn't think x-com 3 was very good, i can't wait for the shooter for x-com. yeEEAHH

By the way, i played F-15 II Strike Eagle, and have F-15 III(it was so complicated i couldn't play it). I also have B-17 Flying Fortress. Even though doom was great...the sound of those snarling dooms scared the beejebeez out of me. I must say X-com Ufo Defense was the best.
